The Villainess Filed for Divorce—Now the ML Wants Her Back! Chapter 08

Those comments were so dirty they snapped me right out of it. I pushed Damian away.

“You jerk! Get away from me!

Damian didn’t get upset. He wiped the corner of his mouth with his thumb, like he was savoring the kiss.

Mr. Serious was actually smirking.

That predatory look in his eyes made me nervous.

I couldn’t help saying, “What are you so smug about? You just stole a kiss. I’ll pretend I got bitten by a dog.”

Damian glanced up at me. “I’m the dog. Then what are you?”

“You?”

“Who is he?”

“He’s my fresh start. What about it?”

Damian laughed, loud and free.

“Looks like you’ve been running around with other men while I was gone. Home. Now.”

He grabbed the blanket from the couch and wrapped it around me. In seconds I was completely bundled

up.
Then he scooped me up. I started to struggle, but he spoke calmly.

“I didn’t cheat on you, Evelyn. This whole divorce is based on a misunderstanding.”

“Even if you get our parents involved, that doesn’t change the truth.”

“You–fine. You win.”

Damian’s car was parked downstairs. I was shoved into it in seconds.

I tried to stop him. “My stuff is still upstairs. I haven’t packed.”

Damian stared straight ahead, his voice low. “I’ll have someone pack it.”

He didn’t say a word the whole drive.

I got impatient and looked at him. Then I saw the faint dark circles under his eyes.

He looked like he hadn’t slept properly in days.

His jaw, usually clean–shaven, had light stubble.

No wonder it felt scratchy earlier. But honestly? It made him look even hotter.

Soon I got sleepy. I watched his handsome profile and fell asleep.

When I woke up, Damian was fast asleep Even asleep, he looked annoyingly good–looking.

It was getting dark outside I slipped out of bed quietly.

Downstairs, Clara was busy in the kitchen.

When she saw me, she almost cried with joy.

“Mrs. Sterling, you’re finally back. Thank God.”

“What’s wrong?”

“Mr. Sterling came home that day and couldn’t find you.”

“He asked me where you were, and I had no idea. He was worried sick.”

I’d given Clara three days off before I left.

No one was home, so there was nothing for her to do. I told her to go home and rest.

I took a casual sip of water. “How was he worried?”

“While you were gone, something big happened at the company.”

“Mr. Sterling handled it while looking for you the whole time.”

“And when he found out where you were, he went straight there.”

I hesitated. “He did?”

Clara said, “He hadn’t slept in days. When he went to pick you up, he wouldn’t even let the driver come.”

“He said it was between the two of you, and he had to come get you himself.”

I was about to say something when the doorbell cut me off.

Clara opened the door. I saw Chloe, all smiles.

But the moment she saw me, her smile vanished.
