My Alpha Married My Best Friend Over a Game Chapter 07

Charlotte followed the trail and found him.

When she saw the rained house and Clive slumped on the ground, a flash of satisfaction crossed her

eyes.

She put on a gentle tone and walked over. “Clive… now that woman has given up and left, there’s no need

for us to dissolve the mate bond, right?”

Alpha Clive’s head snapped up. “What dream are you living in? My Luna will only ever be Felicity!”

“I only made that vow with you because I lost the bet and wanted to make her jealous!”

Charlotte hadn’t expected him to still be thinking about dissolving the mate bond at this point.

She stepped closer. “If you had no feelings for me, why would you vow to be my mate? Even if you lost a

bet, you didn’t have to go that far!”

“Admit it. You have feelings for me too!”

Alpha Clive had no answer.

Yeah. He could have refused the game from the start. He could have refused to honor the bet.

He wasn’t blind to Charlotte’s interest. At first, he had rejected her.

But when he saw two women orbiting him, when he saw Felicity crying for him and Charlotte trying so

hard to please him, his inflated ego had been satisfied.

He liked being fought over.

He’d planned to end the game after the vow. He never thought I would leave him.

I knew none of this.

I had just arrived at the Northern Outpost. The moment I got off the vehicle, I collapsed.

When I woke up in the hospital, I learned that the colleague who’d come to meet me at the station had

rushed me there. My supervisor had even sent me a message, telling me to take some time to recover

before starting work.

But I knew that I’d spent so long running around Alpha Clive, I’d fallen behind on a lot of training and

coursework.

So while I recovered, I kept reading materials. By the time I officially started, I could keep up.

My new supervisor, Theodore, looked at me in surprise.

“The person the Elders’ Council originally sent wasn’t you. The list was changed at the last minute. I figured you were some Alpha’s daughter sent here to pad her résumé. Didn’t expect you to actually know

what you were doing.”

I laughed at myself. “Does this look like some pampered Alpha’s daughter here for a little adventure?”

He was speechless. “That was narrow of me.”

I knew why the list had changed.

The original candidate had found a mate and wanted to stay with the pack after the bonding. They didn’t

want an outside post anymore. And I happened to be in trouble.

The elders’ council probably wanted me to change my environment and my life.

I didn’t say more. He didn’t ask.

He just treated me better after that.

I thought life would stay quiet after that.

Until one night after a patrol gathering, Theodore walked me home.

At the apartment entrance, we ran into an unwelcome guest. Alpha Clive.

He’d lost a lot of weight. The trench coat that used to fit him now hung loose.

I looked straight ahead, thanked Theodore, and walked past Alpha Clive into the building.

He caught my wrist.

“Felicity, I finally found you.”

I sighed. What was coming had come.

I stopped and looked straight at him. “Alpha Clive, we’re broken up.”

He denied it immediately. “I never agreed to that!”

“Does it make a difference? You’ve already vowed to be Charlotte’s mate. Do you really want me to be the

other woman?”

Clive’s face went pale. A broken wheeze came from his throat.

After a long moment, he fumbled in his inner pocket and pulled out a stiff document stamped with the gold seal of the pack elders’ council. He held it out to me with both hands. “I’ve officially severed the mate

bond with her.”

I glanced at it, then looked away.

“You faked the Alpha badge before. Who’s to say this isn’t fake too?”
