He Said I Was Greedy, I Showed Him The 500 Transfer Chapter 07

Callum signed the divorce papers before they

wheeled me in.

He laid my ID, passport, and bank cards next to

my hand.

Last, he pulled out an old pocket watch. My

father’s.

“You had this on you the day you moved in.”

“Ms. Hart locked it away.”

I took it.

The cover was loose.

A receipt slipped out, yellowed and folded so

many times the creases had gone soft.

Callum reached for it.

I wasn’t fast enough.

He unfolded it. The color left his face.

Thirty million dollars.

Dated the night I left him.

The money hadn’t gone to me.

It went to the creditor holding your patents as

collateral.

Callum stared at the receipt.

“What is this?”

I took it back.

“It’s got nothing to do with you anymore.”

“Why did this money go to my company?”

I didn’t answer.

His knuckles went white on the bedrail.

“Mira. Where did the thirty million go?”

A voice answered from the doorway.

“Every cent went to you.”

A gray–haired man stepped inside.

I recognized him.

Five years ago, he’d been the CFO of the rival

company.

My lawyer stood behind him.

The lawyer set a folder on the table.

Transfer records. Audio recordings. Two versions.

of the plan from five years ago.

The man spoke quietly.

“Five years ago, certain people wanted Mr.

Hastings’s core technology.”

“Mira agreed to hand over the plan in exchange for

thirty million.”

“But what she gave us was a fake. Modified just

enough to be useless.”

“She had the real plan sent back to Hastings

Group.”

Callum opened the documents. His hands were

shaking too hard to hold them steady.

“And the thirty million?”

“Twenty million paid off the liens on your patents.”

“Ten million bought back the equipment and

servers you were about to lose at auction.”

“Everything was routed back to Hastings Group.

through a third party.”

He looked at me.

“Mira didn’t keep a single dollar.”

Callum’s eyes went red.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

I held the pocket watch tighter.

“Five years ago, they rigged your car.”

“My brother found out. He took the car instead of

you.”

Callum looked like he’d been hit.

My brother died in that crash.

Everyone said he’d been drinking.

Only I knew Callum was supposed to be behind

the wheel that day.

Before he died, my brother squeezed my hand and told me to keep quiet.

The people behind it were still out there.

As long as Callum believed I’d betrayed him, he’d stop digging into the deal.

He wouldn’t be the next one to die.

“After you got back on your feet, I came to find

you.”

I looked at him.

“But they still had people watching you.”

“All I could do was let you keep hating me.”

“Six months ago, the last of them was locked up. I was ready to tell you everything.”

“But by then, I couldn’t even get past the front

gate.”

Callum’s voice cracked.

“You could have reached out.”

“I did.”

“Calls. Texts. Emails. Letters I left in your study.”

“You never looked at a single one.”

“Ms. Hart told me you said I was lying again.”

He braced himself against the wall and sank to

the floor.

Five years ago, he hated me for leaving with the

money.

Five years later, he finally learned that money had saved his company and his life.

And the person who died in his place was my

brother.

Callum looked up at me.

For the first time, he was crying.

“Mira. I’m sorry.”

I set the divorce papers in front of him.

“Tell that to my brother.”

“As for me, I don’t want your apologies.”

The nurse came to wheel me into surgery.

Callum tried to follow.

I stopped him.

“Family waits outside.”

The nurse looked at him.

I shook my head.

“He’s not family.”

The operating room doors closed in his face.

This time, he was the one locked out.
