The day I received my dual degree in Territorial Economics and Inter-Pack Relations, I knew every late night and every turned page had been worth it.

After my graduation photos, Mom called me.

“Lucy, happy graduation!”

“The silver-wound reconstruction clinic I booked for you has finalized your treatment plan. Your first session is tomorrow.”

“Come home early tonight. I made your favorite soup.”

In all the years I’d lived in Melbourne, very few people had ever

mentioned the scar on my face.

I nodded.

“Do you know a Holden?”

The name that had once made my heart race now left me surprisingly calm.

“Yes. He was my neighbor when I was a child.”

The doctor nodded, something complicated flickering in his eyes.

“Three years ago, someone scheduled an appointment for you with me and paid the full fee up front. He said you would definitely come, but you never showed up.”

“I didn’t know.”

And it didn’t matter anymore.

I was no longer the girl whose world revolved around Holden.

After three rounds of treatment, the silver scar on my face had

faded until it was barely visible.

The damaged skin still had no feeling-the permanent price of the silver blade. But the mark that had plagued me for more than a decade no longer had the power to define my life.

The entire treatment took less than three months.

Mom gave me a three-month break.

When it was over, I would start at her company, learning the trade

business between Tidewatch and other packs.

Ever since coming to Australia, I’d been so busy studying that I’d

never really seen the nearby cities.
