Holden pulled out his phone. The class group chat had exploded with hundreds of new messages.

Someone had dug up Lucia’s old tenth-grade application for the academy’s lunch subsidy. Screenshots were flying everywhere.

Beneath one of the screenshots, Bianca’s old comment was still

visible.

*She lives in a gated community. You need a keycard just to get in.*

Holden stared at the words, a chill seeping into his bones.

He suddenly remembered something from the end of tenth grade. 1/4

The shock on her face back then, the tears… it had all been real.

Holden’s knees felt weak. He could barely stand to think about

what he had done.

The reporters had been waiting for two hours and were clearly

losing patience.

He pulled out his phone and called Lucia.

The call went straight to a disconnected tone.

He hung up and tried again.

Same result.

Only then did it finally hit him.

Lucia had blocked him.
