The Fake Group Darling Picked a Fight with the Real Boss Chapter 06

“Harleigh!” Sylvie slammed her hand onto the table. “You’ve been targeting me ever since you got back! I was right women are nothing but trouble!”

The smile on my face vanished completely.

“Don’t drag other women down with you.”

“Zoya is a woman, I’m a woman, and Lori over there handing you napkins is a woman.”

“You’re the one with no boundaries. Not women being difficult.”

“You’ve been bragging that you ‘just can’t get along with girls’ for a whole year. It’s not that you can’t get along-it’s that any normal girl can see through your bullshit within several minutes. Only these dense guys couldn’t.”

Sylvie’s lips trembled, unable to squeeze out a single word.

The game continued.

What happened next broke her.

Three rounds in a row, the questions were mine,

“Do you honestly believe Zoya and Rupert’s breakup had nothing to do with you?”

“If you treat them like friends, why are they always the ones giving?”

“Calling someone at midnight to pick you up from a bar-would you dare boss your real friend

around like that?”

Every question hit exactly where it hurt.

No magic to it.

I was the one who set the rules for this game when I was fifteen.

On top of that, Trevor’s deck of cards had been used for several years. I could tell which card

was which with my eyes closed just by feeling the worn corners.

Colson could tell something was off. He leaned toward Manuel and whispered, “She’s totally

cheating. You’re just gonna sit there and watch?”

Manuel took a sip of his drink. “Don’t make wild accusations without proof.”

Colson blinked and fell silent.

One was cheating.

The other was actively turning a blind eye.

He finally realized why these two ended up together.

Eventually, Sylvie lost it.

She slammed the cards onto the table. “I’m done with Q&A! Next round, I choose Dare!”

I looked at her and smirked. “Sure. You asked for it.”

Sylvie assumed Dares were safer than Truths.

Makes sense–flirting and messing around with guys was her home turf anyway.

The Dare she drew instructed her to pick a guy, interlock fingers, and hold eye contact for

thirty seconds.

Sylvie barely hesitated. “I pick Manuel!”

Rupert’s face dropped instantly.

A year of covering her bills, and when it came time to pick who she liked, she didn’t even

glance his way.

I didn’t stop her, casually continuing to eat my fruit.

Sylvie shot a glance my way, offering a playful smirk. “It’s just a game, Harleigh. You’re not gonna be a poor sport, are you?”

I pointed at Manuel. “Ask him.”

Manuel looked up. “Not playing.”

Sylvie froze briefly before she smoothly pivoted back to her well-practiced friend script. “Oh, come on, it’s just a few seconds. We’re all just playing a game; what’s the big deal?”

“Besides, you don’t even have a girlfriend, so what are you scared of?”

Manuel remained unmoved.

Failing to budge him, Sylvie finally redirected her attack toward me.

“Harleigh, I know you and Manuel are close. But you’re just childhood friends.”

“You can’t control who he talks to just because you’ve known him longer. He’s his own person,

not yours.”

I stopped eating my fruit and looked at her.

I gave it some genuine thought. “You’ve got a point.”

Sylvie’s eyes lit up.

I continued, “As a childhood friend, I really don’t have the right to control him like that. So I usually stay out of it.”

I held out my hand.

Manuel set down his drink and naturally took hold of it, interlocking his fingers with mine.

His movements were as effortless as if he’d done it countless times before.

I looked at Sylvie with a sweet smile.

“Let me introduce him properly.”

“Manuel is my boyfriend.”

“We’ve been together for two years.”

Everyone completely lost it.

Trevor spat out his drink.

Colson pounded the table, hollering.

Rupert’s mouth hung open.

As for Manuel-the guy who had maintained a cool, aloof front all night-the moment he held

my hand, his ears turned bright red.

Ears red, and still he threw in a tough line for the crowd. “What are you all yelling for? It’s no big deal.”
