My Boyfriend Took My Best Friend Home for Thanksgiving Chapter 07

I pulled my hand away and looked up at Mason as caltnly as if he were a stranger.

“I have nothing to say to you.”

“I’m not accepting that breakup,” Mason said, his voice low and tense.

“Seven years, Hannah. You’re really ending everything over something this small?”

“This small?”

I let out a short laugh.

“Mason, when you pretended to be Tessa’s boyfriend and left me alone in the rain looking for

a hotel, did our seven years together cross your mind?”

“When you spent the forty-five-thousand-dollar wedding fund I saved on gifts for her family, did you think about those seven years?”

“And when you stood in front of an entire room and said, ‘I have one girlfriend, and it’s Tessa,’ did you think about them then?”

I kept my voice low, but every word came out perfectly clear.

Mason’s face slowly went ashen.

He opened his mouth as if searching for an excuse, but nothing came out.

That was when Adrian spoke.

“Sir, Hannah and I were in the middle of a conversation. Barging in like this is a little inappropriate.”

Mason whipped around to glare at him.

“Who are you?”

“Who I am doesn’t matter.”

Adrian calmly refilled his own cup.

“What matters is that Hannah doesn’t want to talk to you. She just told you exactly why. Did

you hear a single word she said?”

Mason’s hands curled into fists.

He stared at me, barely containing his anger.

“Hannah, you’re coming with me. Whatever this is, we’ll talk about it in private.”

“She’s not going anywhere with you.”

Adrian stood and stepped between us.

He was noticeably taller than Mason, and once he moved in front of me, Mason could no

longer even see me clearly.

“Your leg looks pretty bad,” Adrian said. “Maybe you should get that checked out instead of standing here.”

Something in Adrian’s easy confidence pushed Mason over the edge.

He reached out to shove him.

Adrian didn’t even step back. He simply shifted aside, and Mason’s hand missed him

completely.

Just then, the rapid click of heels sounded near the stairs.

Tessa rushed up, out of breath, her cheeks flushed.

The moment she saw Mason, she hurried over and grabbed his arm.

“Mason! What are you doing here? You took off before Thanksgiving dinner. Do you have any idea how worried my parents are?”

Halfway through, she finally noticed me by the window-and Adrian standing beside me.

For a split second, her expression faltered.

Then that same sweet, understanding look slipped neatly back into place.

“Hannah, you really didn’t need to drag another guy into this just to make Mason jealous.”

She let go of Mason and walked toward me.

“I already told you I only asked Mason to pretend to be my boyfriend. Tonight was supposed to

be the last time.”

“So why pull something like this? We’ve been friends for years. This is just petty.”

Then she turned to Mason.

“Whether you want to fall for Hannah’s little trap and stay here with her is up to you.”

I watched her slip effortlessly into the same old performance and realized I couldn’t even

summon the energy to be angry anymore.

That fake-sweet, manipulative routine used to make my blood boil.

Now it just seemed ridiculous.

Before I could say anything, Adrian laughed softly beside me.

“I think you’re missing something.”

His tone remained mild, but the look he gave her was sharp and knowing.

“You were never Mason’s girlfriend. So what exactly gives you the right to interfere in their

relationship?”

“The fact that Mr. Carter came all the way here tells you everything. He can’t let Hannah go. Whatever you want to believe, she matters more to him than you do.”

“You keep calling yourself her best friend, but all you ever seem to do is make things harder for her. Is that what you call friendship?”

Adrian glanced at Mason.

“Mr. Carter, your ‘girlfriend’ is pretty good at twisting things around. Do you usually notice?”

Tessa’s expression changed instantly.

The color drained from her face, then rushed back again as her fingers tightened at her sides.

She turned to Mason, clearly expecting the same automatic defense and favoritism he had always given her.

This time, there was nothing…

Mason was staring at the floor.

He looked completely drained, his shoulders slumped as his injured leg trembled beneath him.

The silence stretched until the entire cafe seemed to hold its breath.

Finally, he spoke.

“Tessa, go home.”

Tessa stared at him.

“What did you say?”
