I Thought I Was His Stalker. I Was Actually His Girlfriend Chapter 02

I Thought I Was His Stalker. I Was Actually His Girlfriend Chapter 02

I froze.

What?

Blake was still listing my crimes.

“You barely talk to me anymore. You won’t let me order food for you. You won’t take my gifts. And…”

He stopped before finishing that last thought.

Then his voice hardened.

“Did you meet someone else?”

I hesitated.

If I said yes, I would be lying.

If I said no, I had absolutely no way to explain the past few days of bizarre behavior.

Apparently, two seconds of silence were enough for Blake to reach his own conclusion.

He exhaled slowly.

“Can you stop seeing him?”

I blinked.

“You mean… stop seeing you?”

Blake nearly choked.

“You two! You and him! The new hubby!”

How was I supposed to break up with a man who didn’t exist?

Blake read something else into my silence.

His voice dropped, rough and low.

“You moved on kind of fast, didn’t you?”

That felt deeply unfair.

He was the one supposedly preparing to have me arrested, and now he had the nerve to accuse me?

So I seized the moral high ground immediately.

“What about you? You seriously think you haven’t done anything wrong?”

Blake was stunned by my sudden aggression.

“What did I do? Ever since we got together, I haven’t even added another girl.”

Got together?

My mind went blank.

“We… got together?”

Had the three-month hubby experiment actually worked?

Blake went completely silent.

A second later, I realized how that sounded and hurried to explain.

Before I could, he gave a short, humorless laugh.

“So these past few months, you were just messing with me?”

“No, wait—”

He hung up.

I immediately sent him a message.

It didn’t go through.

I realized he had blocked me.

That reaction speed really was worthy of a ranked carry.

My head started aching.

Based on his tone, we had very clearly not been on the same page about our relationship.

We needed to talk properly.

After a little thought, I ordered flowers and a cake for delivery, added a brief explanation in the notes, and specifically asked the driver to make sure Blake accepted it himself.

Half an hour later, the delivery driver called me.

“Miss, is the recipient your boyfriend? Because… he’s kind of a piece of work.”

My stomach dropped.

“He didn’t even look at what you sent. He threw it straight in the trash and said it was disgusting.”

My heart cracked a little.

Was “disgusting” really necessary?

Couldn’t he at least let me explain?

With no other option, I tried to ask Logan about Blake without sounding suspicious.

“How’s Blake lately? Is that person still bothering him?”

Logan shrugged.

“No idea. But I heard Blake got his heart broken.”

My heart jumped.

“Dumped…?”

“Yep. Didn’t think Blake Carter could get dumped either, did you?”

Logan sounded far too entertained.

“Apparently the girl he liked was a total player. Cut him loose.”

Liked?

I thought I was the creep.

Could Blake actually like the creep?

The more I listened, the less any of it made sense.

I was about to ask more when Logan changed the subject.

“Honestly, I doubt he’ll stay single long. Have you seen him? He’s not exactly hurting for options. There’s a freshman in the theater program who’s been around him a lot lately. Short hair, big eyes. Pretty cute.”

Excuse me?

If anyone had moved on fast, it was Blake Carter.

A sour feeling spread through my chest.

“Is she cuter than me?”

Logan clicked his tongue.

“Sophie, tell me the truth. Do you like Blake?”

Like him?

I’d already fast-forwarded straight to getting rejected by him.

“I knew something was off with you at dinner.”

Logan knew me too well.

“If you really like him, I can help. We’re taking Blake out for his birthday this weekend. Want to come?”

I hesitated for a few seconds, then gritted my teeth.

“Yes.”

Blake’s birthday dinner was far from my campus, and I barely made it into the private room on time.

“Sorry. Traffic was bad.”

I smiled and handed him a box.

“Happy birthday, Blake. This is for you.”

Logan had already given him a heads-up that I’d be there, so Blake didn’t look surprised to see me.

But when he noticed the gift, he paused and frowned.

It was a watch.

Blake had mentioned it once before, and I remembered thinking he sounded like he really wanted it.

“Thanks.”

A few seconds later, though, he closed the lid and handed it back.

“But I can’t take it. We’re not close enough for you to spend this much on me.”

I stood there awkwardly with the rejected gift in my hands while Blake smoothly changed the subject.

He stayed distant through dinner.

Every time I tried to talk to him, I got a lukewarm response.

Only then did I fully understand just how cold Blake was in person.

If I hadn’t been his roommate’s sister, he probably wouldn’t have spared me a second glance.

I had run out of ideas.

I excused myself to the restroom to get my emotions under control.

On my way back, I overheard Logan asking Blake something.

“My sister obviously likes you. You can tell. So what’s the answer? Are you interested or not?”

My heart leaped into my throat.

After a brief silence, Blake answered.

“No.”

Something inside me went cold.

He kept going.

“She’s great. She’s just not my type.”

Logan refused to let it go.

“You barely know her. How do you know she’s not your type? At least spend some time with her first.”

Blake’s voice stayed flat.

“No. There’s no point wasting either of our time.”

There wasn’t much Logan could say after that.

He sighed.

Tears burned behind my eyes.

There was no way I could walk back into that room and pretend I hadn’t heard anything.

So I texted Logan that something had come up and left.

On the ride back, I stared at my message history with Blake for a long time.

We had met during a 5v5 League match.

I had been trying a new champion I wasn’t comfortable with, and my gameplay had been so weird that my teammates probably thought I’d queued just to hide in bushes.

Blake was the only one who didn’t flame me.

He hard-carried the entire game and won it for us.

Afterward, I thanked him.

It took him forever to answer.

[You played so badly I thought you might actually be disabled. I didn’t have the heart to turn on my mic.]

I stayed mad about that all night.

From then on, we developed a habit of roasting each other every time we met.

Then one day, I got stuck with awful teammates.

I was carrying two of them, and they were still calling me trash and flooding the chat with insults.

Blake didn’t say a word.

He just camped them so brutally that they barely left their base for the rest of the match.

Eventually, they surrendered.

Afterward, I thanked him, still feeling awkward about it.

For once, he didn’t make fun of me.

[You played fine. Your teammates were idiots. Next time someone acts like that, don’t bother being nice. Just trash-talk them back.]

I laughed.

[What if they report me? Or target me later?]

Blake answered without hesitation.

[Then come find me. I’ll target them back.]

My heart gave a strange little tug.

[Anytime?]

[Anytime.]
