My Life For Her Happy Ending Chapter 09

My Life For Her Happy Ending Chapter 09

They arrived in the Underworld and searched frantically for Hades.

Mom and Dad grabbed at his robes. Ethan fell to

his knees. All three of them talked over each other,

incoherent.

“Lord Hades, we need to see Mia! We have so

much to tell her!”

“We wronged her! We want to apologize in person!

We want to beg her forgiveness!”

“Just let us see her, just once, please!”

Hades looked at them and sneered.

“You want to see her?”

“But does she want to see you?”

He waved a hand, and a shimmering screen

appeared before them.

In it, a newborn baby lay cradled in a young woman’s arms. The woman smiled, her eyes crinkling, teasing the baby with a little toy.

A man walked in holding a bowl of baby cereal. He blew on it gently before handing it over.

The woman scooped up a small spoonful, blew on

it again, and brought it to the baby’s lips.

The baby opened her mouth with a little “ah” and

took a big bite, cereal smearing all over her face.

Her tiny hands waved in the air. She grabbed one of the woman’s fingers and held on tight.

The woman bent down and kissed her forehead.

The man watched, his gaze soft as melted water.

The screen shifted. The baby sat on her father’s

shoulders, riding high, pointing out the window at the birds flying by.

Mom chased after them with a bowl, trying to feed her. Dad walked slowly on purpose, and the baby

tugged his hair impatiently.

The whole family laughed together, sunlight

pouring through the window and landing on their

faces.

Hades looked at the three kneeling figures and

spoke calmly.

“I asked her once if she wanted to wait for you.”

Mom’s head shot up, her lips trembling.

“She said no.”

Ethan’s shoulders shuddered.

“She said she’d saved up enough disappointment over the years. She didn’t want to wait anymore. She said this life is good–she has parents who love her, and someday, a husband who will cherish her. She said she’ll be happy.”

“She doesn’t want to walk the path you left her on.”

The screen slowly faded, but the baby’s laughter still echoed through the Underworld, bright and

clear.

I stood beside the screen, looking at that small

version of myself.

The house wasn’t big, but the curtains were new.

The floors were covered with a play mat. The

cabinets were full of toys.

Every day after work, the first thing Dad would do

was lift her up high. Every night, Mom would tell

three bedtime stories before she’d let her sleep.

She’d grow up slowly. She’d wear pigtails to

school. She’d get her hair pulled by the boy who

sat next to her. She’d come home proudly waving

her test scores.

She’d smile that bright smile, with light in her eyes.

She’d meet a clean–hearted boy who’d stand

outside the school gate with flowers on her

birthday. He’d hold her hand as they walked down long streets. One evening, he’d get down on one knee and ask if she’d marry him.

And she’d say yes.

Because in this life, her parents would never make

her wait.
