My Life For Her Happy Ending Chapter 06

My Life For Her Happy Ending Chapter 06

The medical examiner walked in with the report, his voice quiet but every word clear.

“After examination, the deceased, Mia Sullivan,

was pronounced dead at 9:46 last night. Time of

final heartbeat confirmed.”

Mom swayed. She turned slowly to look at Chloe.

“Chloe, didn’t you just tell us Mia opened the door and threw cake at you? That she cursed at us?”

Chloe’s face went sheet–white, her body trembling.

with panic.

“I–I got it wrong… It wasn’t last night, it was the day before… No, no, it was yesterday afternoon…”

She stumbled over her words, growing more frantic by the second.

Ethan, who had been silent for a long time, finally

spoke. His voice was flat, emotionless.

“Stop. I have proof.”

Everyone turned to look at him.

Ethan pointed to the small camera in the corner of

the living room.

“To prepare a perfect proposal for Mia, I had a

micro–camera installed this morning. It recorded

everything.”

“If we review the footage, the truth will come out.

Although I never expected…”

Before he could finish, Chloe lunged at him.

She grabbed his arm, tears streaming down her

face.

“Ethan, don’t look at it! The camera must be

broken! Even if it recorded something, it wouldn’t

be clear! Please, just don’t look!”

The Ethan who had always softened and given in

to her didn’t hesitate this time.

He shoved her away, hard.

Soon, the surveillance footage was projected onto

the screen for everyone to see.

There was Chloe, standing outside my door with

the layer cake.

She said a few words to the closed door. Then she

raised the cake high and smashed it into her own

face. Cream splattered everywhere.

She stumbled back, gritted her teeth, and rammed

her head into the wall. A dull thud. Blood trickled

down from her forehead.

Then she collapsed to the floor, crying and

screaming, her voice shrill and piercing.

The room went so quiet you couldn’t even hear

anyone breathing.

The guests erupted into frantic murmurs.

“Oh my god, she did it all to herself?”

“To frame her own sister, she’d go this far? That’s terrifying.”

“No wonder Mia kept saying no one believed her. It was a setup from the very beginning.”

The footage replayed frame by frame, reflected in Ethan’s and my parents‘ faces.

The three of them stood rigid, ashen–faced.

Chloe lay on the floor, desperately defending herself.

“I’m not lying! I’m really not! If I don’t complete my quest, I’ll really die–the system’s test is real!”

She lifted her tear–streaked face, frantically explaining.

“I was just jealous of Mia. Everyone adored her. I

was afraid that if I died, no one would remember

me.”

“I just wanted to keep it secret for a little while. Once I was safe, I was going to tell everyone the

truth. I never meant to hurt her…”

Before she could finish, a bouquet of white roses

slammed into her face. Petals scattered across

the floor.

Ethan’s chest heaved. His eyes were bloodshot.

“Chloe, why? Why did you lie to us?”

Mom was already sobbing, her whole body

shaking.

“Chloe, what did we ever do to you? We gave you

everything. Why would you be so cruel? Why

would you kill Mia?”

Dad stood nearby, pounding his chest.

“It’s my fault… all my fault…”

“We were blind. We were biased. We were stupid.

We killed our own daughter with our own hands.”

I floated above them, watching the three of them

break apart with grief and guilt.

I reached out with my ghostly hand and gently

brushed across their faces, offering silent

comfort.

“It’s over now, Mom, Dad. Ethan.”

“I don’t blame you anymore. It’s all over.”

This absurd misunderstanding. This soul–deep betrayal. It ended here.

The police looked over the scene and closed the

case by the book.

The tragedy was classified as a standard drunk–driving accident. The driver took full

responsibility. The case was settled.

The storm passed. The crowd dispersed.

Mom’s eyes were red, her voice hoarse.

“The system gave Mia a chance to come back.

Let’s beg it for another one.”

Dad straightened up and wiped his face.

“Yes. Let’s find the system. Beg it to give Mia back

to us.”
