My Life For Her Happy Ending Chapter 05

My Life For Her Happy Ending Chapter 05

I floated above them, watching my hand dangle from my mother’s grip.

Only a strip of flesh still connected my palm to my wrist. The bones were shattered.

When Mom pulled, the wrist sagged sideways like

a broken doll.

Sunlight hit the torn edge. White bone gleamed through dried, blackened blood.

The blanket beneath me was soaked through- dark, crusted, reeking. The stench of rot and old

blood filled the room in a wave.

Mom stood frozen, her mouth open, no sound

coming out.

Someone whispered, “What… what is this? How

did someone die? When did this happen?”

The voices grew louder, buzzing like flies.

People backed away. Hands covered mouths.

Someone ran out the door.

The confetti still hung from the ceiling. Red and

green paper scraps littered the floor, dotting my blood–soaked blanket like a mockery.

Ethan stayed on one knee beside the bed,

unmoving.

The bouquet had already fallen from his hand. The

ring slipped from his fingers and hit the floor with a faint metallic chime.

He didn’t move. He stayed frozen in his proposal

stance, eyes locked on me.

“Mia… you’re joking, right?”

“Impossible.” He shook his head. “Yesterday, I

still…”

He couldn’t finish.

Yesterday, he’d been walking down the aisle with Chloe. Yesterday, he’d been smiling at everyone. Yesterday, he’d locked me in this room and told

me to calm down.

Dad stepped forward, staring at the sunken hollow

of my waist.

“Mia? Sweetheart? You’re just teasing, right? Stop fooling around…”

He reached for me, then pulled back like the air

had burned him.

Mom started to laugh. Loud, shrill, with tears

running down her cheeks.

“Look at this girl. Always scaring her mother. You’re playing a prank, aren’t you? You just don’t want to say yes, so you’re doing this to scare us!”

But the truth was already spreading through the room like the smell.

I was dead.

Then came a sharp knock at the door.

Several police officers stepped inside, expressions

grim.

“Excuse me. Is this the home of Mia Sullivan? Two days ago, a drunk driver caused an accident at the Westside intersection. The driver has been

arrested. The deceased has been identified as Mia

Sullivan. ID number-”

The officer’s cold, official voice cut through the

room like a blade.

Mom, Dad, and Ethan stood there as if struck by lightning.

The memories they’d buried came flooding back.

They remembered now. That day, Chloe and I had gone out together to buy Mom’s birthday gift..

They remembered the drunk driver.

They remembered Chloe staggering through the front door first, covered in filth, screaming and

crying about the accident. How she’d told them

the system had given her a second chance at life- that only if everyone fulfilled her every wish could

she survive.

And because of those words, they’d given her everything. Every indulgence. Every excuse. They’d ignored my pain, my explanations, my begging.

They’d even planned the wedding–the wedding that should have been mine–just to make her

happy.

I’d been standing right there. In this room. Saying

the same thing over and over.

“I was in the accident too. I’m on the same quest.

If I fail, I die.”

I said it so many times.

But no one heard.

I drifted down to my body and wrapped my

ghostly arms around myself.

“It’s okay, Mia. It’s all over now.”
