I Pretended to Be Dead and They All Panicked Chapter 09

I Pretended to Be Dead and They All Panicked Chapter 09

I had no time to dodge.

A searing pain ripped through my abdomen.

Evangeline had just gotten out of prison, and the pampered heiress who used to carry herself like she owned the world was long gone. She looked gaunt and exhausted, almost ghostly.

Clutching the knife, she seemed completely

unhinged as she drove the blade even deeper into

my stomach.

“Cordelia, you wanted to die, didn’t you? Fine. I’ll

make your wish come true!”

She muttered to herself like a woman possessed.

“Once you’re dead, I’ll be Mom and Dad’s only

daughter again. They’ll have no choice but to take

me back.”

Cold sweat broke across my forehead from the pain, but her ridiculous words made me grit my

teeth.

“Are you seriously this delusional? Get one thing

straight. I’m their biological daughter. You’re the

one who destroyed your own life and ended up in

this mess. And you want me dead? Sorry to disappoint you, but I have money now. I have a lot

to live for, and I’m not interested in dying

anymore.”

For the past three years, my parents had forced

me to work out and train in self–defense.

I was no longer the fragile girl who could barely

stand on her own.

I suddenly grabbed the knife by the handle and

yanked it out of my abdomen.

Then I drove my foot straight into Evangeline’s

chest.

She went flying and slammed hard onto the floor.

The moment she tried to get back up, I kicked her

again.

The Sinclair family’s security team rushed forward

and pinned her to the ground.

She still fought like a wild animal, screaming and

cursing.

“You bitch! You stole everything from me!”

Julian had witnessed me being stabbed. His face

twisted with horror.

“Call an ambulance! Now!”

By the time the ambulance arrived, even the paramedic’s expression looked worse than mine.

“Miss Sinclair has a rare Rh–negative blood type. None of the hospitals in Viremont have a compatible supply in their blood banks. If we don’t get her blood loss under control immediately, she could die.”

The moment Evangeline heard that, she burst into hysterical laughter from where the guards had pinned her down.

“Hahaha! So what if you’re rich? You’re still going to die!”

I pressed a hand over my wound. My vision was already beginning to blur.

Without changing expression, I looked at the security guards.

“Put her on the ambulance too.”

Evangeline froze.

What she didn’t know was that my parents had

adopted her all those years ago for one very specific reason.

She had the same rare Rh–negative blood type as

  1. me.

For once, she had been the perfect match.

Half an hour later, Evangeline was forcibly

strapped to another hospital gurney.

A thick needle was driven into her vein without the

slightest hesitation.

She had no choice but to donate her blood.

She had only just gotten out of prison and was

already severely malnourished. Now, she barely

had enough strength left to struggle.

When my parents came rushing into the

emergency room, a flicker of hope appeared in

Evangeline’s eyes.

She thought that seeing her in such a miserable

state would finally make them feel sorry for her.

She was wrong.

My parents rushed straight to my bedside.

“Sweetheart, how are you feeling? Does anything

hurt?”

“Are you dizzy? Can you breathe comfortably?”

They fussed over me for several minutes before

Dad finally turned his attention toward Evangeline.

She stared at him expectantly.

She thought he might finally say something to her.

Instead, his voice was ice–cold.

“Three years ago, when I sent you to prison, I was showing you mercy. You had called us Mom and Dad for more than a decade, and that was the only

reason I gave you a chance.”

His expression hardened.

“But you actually had the nerve to come back and

cause trouble again.”

“This time, I’m going to make sure you understand

one thing. The Sinclair family is not someone you

can afford to provoke.”

Dad gave the security team a look.

They immediately understood.

Two guards stepped forward and prepared to drag

Evangeline away.

Suddenly, Evangeline realized where they were

taking her.

Her face went white.

“No! Dad, please!”

She frantically shook her head.

“Don’t lock me in the basement! Please! I was

wrong. I know I was wrong!”

A billionaire didn’t get to the top without knowing

how to make an enemy’s life a living hell.

Unfortunately for Evangeline, she had realized her

mistake far too late.

Half a month later, I had finally recovered from my

injuries.

Mom wanted to get me out of the house and help

me relax, so she booked us tickets to the

Maldives.

On the day we left, we were running late for our

flight.

Without thinking, I quickened my pace.

Mom immediately caught my hand and slowed

me down.

“Don’t rush. If we miss the flight, we’ll just book

another one. It’s not a big deal.”

I stopped walking

Once again, I couldn’t help but think:

Being rich really was the best.
