The Girl the Pack Treated as a Joke Was Actually a Powerful White Wolf Chapter 07

A pull spun me around.

Nolan stood on the stone steps, eyes bloodshot, jaw shadowed with dark stubble.

“Lyra… I finally found you.”

His voice cracked with a raw desperation I’d never heard before. “Please, just come home.”

Beneath my skin, my wolf bristled, letting out a sharp snarl at the uninvited contact.

I stared back into his bloodshot eyes, cold and untouched. “Take your hands off me, Mr. Mercer.”

He held no claim over me anymore. He wasn’t even the Alpha I owed allegiance to.

Nolan froze, stung. “What did you just call me?”

Without answering, I pulled my books against my ribs and retreated out of reach.

Nolan’s throat bobbed.

Scrambling for control, he pulled the silver Luna circlet from his bag.

“Lyra, this crown has always belonged to you…”

He stepped forward, attempting to place it over my brow.

“I was blind that day, Lyra. I was wrong. But I’ve loved you for three years.”

Even cornered, he still tried to hold my debts over my head.

Wordlessly, I reached into my bag and hit play.

Serena’s voice drifted into the air.

“Nolan… do you actually love Lyra?”

The blood drained from Nolan’s face in an instant.

His own voice followed through the speaker.

“She’s reliable. Flawless scores, an obedient wolf-she was built to be a Luna on paper. But you’re different,

Serena. You make me want to protect you, I could never leave you behind.”

Nolan lunged forward to swipe the phone from my hand.

I pivoted lightly on my heel, letting his own momentum stumble him forward onto the stone.

“Lyra, let me explain!” His voice cracked, sweat glistening along his temples.

“I was talking her down! She was an emotional mess!”

“Which part was just what she needed to hear?” I locked eyes with him, my pulse flat and unbothered.

“The part where I was simply an efficient tool for your pack, or the part where you swore you’d never

abandon her?”

His jaw moved, but not a single sound came out.

I had found the audio file on his tablet weeks ago by accident. A private clip recorded during the yacht party -a conversation neither of them ever thought I would hear.

He had once pulled me against his chest, swearing to the Moon Goddess that having me in his life was his

greatest fortune, promising to stand by me until his last breath.

It turned out that in his eyes, I was merely the convenient option.

Easy to manage. I had trained myself never to ask for reassurance, never to demand his time, never to burden him with a single heavy thought.

The tenderness, the protection, the fierce loyalty-all of it had been reserved exclusively for Serena from the very beginning.

He wanted a mate to shoulder his pack’s reputation, and a helpless little she-wolf to stroke his vanity.

Meanwhile, I hadn’t even received the silver fountain pen he promised me for my birthday.

Nolan dragged air into his lungs, forcibly smoothing his expression back into that familiar, practiced tenderness. He leaned down, picking the dropped crown off the paving stones.

He held it out once more, offering it like a generous peace offering.

“Lyra, I misspoke. I admit that.”

He stepped closer, holding out the tarnished crown like an offering of peace.

“But our match was blessed by the Moon Goddess herself. Every dime I spent, every effort I made over three

years-that was real. Be reasonable for once.”

Seeing that I hadn’t reached for it, his voice sharpened with a familiar, condescending edge.

“How are you supposed to survive out here on your own? The combat gear, the tuition, your living

expenses…”

I took another measured step back, widening the divide between us.

“Every single dollar you ever spent on me was wired back to your account this morning. With interest.”

His gaze shattered.

“Keep that cheap tenderness for someone who wants it, Nolan. You don’t have the right to speak about love.”

He froze, his lips parted in disbelief, looking as though he had been struck across the mouth for the first time

in his life.

I turned on my heel, heading straight toward the cadet residence.

“Lyra Bennett!”

I didn’t slow down.

“Never show your face here again. If you ambush me a second time, I’ll have the Academy Enforcers drag

you off the territory.”
