The Girl the Pack Treated as a Joke Was Actually a Powerful White Wolf Chapter 06

It was a bank transfer.

Calculated down to the exact cent.

Memo: Paid in full.

Nolan stared at the alert, nearly crushing his phone.

A full refund. She had planned this exit from the start.

Abandoning the pavilion, he sped to the estate and shoved her bedroom door open.

Empty.

The closet hung bare. On the desk, the leather registry lay gutted, a page torn clean out.

Her name was gone from the pack rolls.

Weighted down beside it was a folded note.

[Thanks for the charity. Consider us even-and don’t ever choke on my name again.]

Serena slipped her head around the doorframe, her rehearsed pout still lingering at the corners of her mouth.

“Nolan? What is it?”

Nolan didn’t answer. He punched in Lyra’s number.

A hollow click, followed by the flat drone of an automated operator.

“The number you are trying to reach is out of service.”

Her mother brushed past him.

“The girl’s throwing a fit. Playing hard to get.” She slammed the book shut.

“She has zero money. As soon as reality hits, she’ll crawl right back to you.”

Serena toyed with the lace of her dress, her voice dripping with calculated sweetness.

“Don’t be upset, Nolan. You know how Lyra is-she’s probably just crashing with a friend, waiting for you to

come chase after her.”

Nolan ignored them both. Choked by rage and wounded pride, he slammed open an internal mindlink to his

Beta.

“Find her. Use every resource we have.”

Down in the foyer, her mother was still venting.

“Let her starve for a couple of days. Don’t you dare indulge her, Nolan…”

Serena’s eyes darted between the stripped-bare room and Nolan’s rigid posture.

“Nolan… you don’t think she’s actually gone, do you?”

Nolan stood in cold, suffocating silence.

Three hours later, his phone buzzed. His Beta’s voice came through, hesitant and laced with caution.

“Alpha… Ms. Bennett invoked the Academy Sovereign Act at the border post. Her pack ties to Ravenbrook have been officially severed and transferred to RCA jurisdiction.”

She had struck herself from Ravenbrook.

Nolan’s knuckles turned white. “Where is she?”

“The border guards logged her destination. She… cleared out early for Royal Crescent Academy.”

The Beta kept explaining, but Nolan went deaf to the noise.

He opened his flight app and booked the earliest departure out to the Northcrest territory.

His pride wouldn’t let him believe it. Lyra was just acting out.

All it took was for him to show up in person, offer a single scrap of affection, and she would crawl right back

into his arms in tears.

Meanwhile, a world away.

Northcrest territory-the sovereign land of the Alpha King.

Early September sunlight filtered through the golden leaves outside Royal Crescent Academy.

I carried a steaming bowl of spicy beef stew away from the dining counter, glancing up as an arm waved

from across the hall.

“Lyra! Over here! Saved you a seat!”

My dorm roommate, Chloe Reed, swept my gear bag off the bench while Mia Carter slid a glass of iced berry

tea across the table.

“Warrior Division orientation is this afternoon-you coming?” Chloe asked between bites.

“Patrol Squad and Tactical Council are both taking recruits. With your placement scores, you’d own that

floor.”

I sat down and took a spoonful of the stew.

The spice hit the back of my throat. “I’m in.”

Mia leaned in over her tray, eyes wide.

“Hear the news? Cassian Vale is running a shift demo at the rings-half the freshmen skipped lunch to

drool.”

Chloe rolled her eyes. “Pathetic.”

Listening to them bicker, I felt a quiet, effortless laugh bubble up in my chest.

No one at this table was bursting into theatrical tears to demand an apology.

No one was snatching food off my tray to pamper a spoiled favorite.

No one was glaring at my smile, telling me I didn’t know my place.

The dining hall fans whirred steadily overhead, tossing the loose hair against my forehead.

At four in the afternoon, I pushed through the library’s heavy double doors, an armful of tactical manuals tucked against my chest. Long shadows bled across the stone steps into the courtyard.

Without warning, an iron grip clamped around my wrist.

A suffocating wave of heavy cedar crashed over my senses.

Deep inside my consciousness, my wolf bared her fangs, letting out a low, venomous growl.
