I Sent Away Every Woman He Loved Until I Became the One Who Left Chapter 04

No reply.

He was always like this. Anything that could cost him half his assets, he simply ignored.

But this marriage had reached the point where it couldn’t go on.

The next morning, I arrived at the courthouse at eight thirty.

A few couples were lined up at the door, faces full of the foolishness that only comes at the start of a marriage.

I walked past them and found a seat by the window.

Nine fifteen.

He didn’t come.

I put my bag on the seat beside me and looked down at the groove on my ring finger.

A thin white band under the skin.

Like a brand of failure.

Seven years, and all I had left was a blank space.

I knew he wouldn’t come. But whether he came or not didn’t matter anymore.

What mattered was that I wasn’t waiting anymore.

I was about to get up when a voice came from above.

“Well, well. Mrs. Keller?”

I looked up and saw a heavily made-up face.

Short hair, black slip dress. I recognized her. She’d shown up last summer. Chloe Bennett, a modern dancer.

Grant had secretly sponsored a few of her performances.

She stood with her arms crossed. “What are you doing here, Mrs. Keller?”

“Getting a divorce.”

She blinked, then laughed. “A divorce? Who answered your three questions?”

I shook my head.

Her smile faded. She tilted her head, studying me with a strange look.

“You two are really something,” she said suddenly. “Grant’s even worse.”

“When I asked him what those three questions meant, whether I had to get them right to be with him, you know what he said?”
