I Was the Mistress at My Own Wedding Chapter 01

I Was the Mistress at My Own Wedding Chapter 01

On our wedding day, Ethan said there was one more game to play after the wedding pranks were over.

The next second, the bridesmaids and groomsmen grabbed handfuls of cake and hurled them at me.

Cream smeared across my wedding gown.

Everyone burst out laughing.

Then someone suddenly called out, “Someone here is about to become a dad. Guess who?”

My hand instinctively went to my stomach.

I thought they knew I was pregnant.

I was just about to speak when one of Ethan’s closest friends laughed.

“Obviously Ethan!”

Ethan glanced at me through a haze of cigarette smoke.

“They’re right.”

My heart leaped.

Before I could even feel happy, he added, “Actually, Claire and I got legally married three years ago.”

“She just found out about the wedding and got so upset that it triggered complications with her pregnancy. They were doing it to punish you for upsetting Claire.”

My whole body went rigid.

“What are you talking about?”

Ethan’s lips curved into a smile, but there was no warmth in it.

“I’m saying you’re the mistress.”

My mind went completely blank.

My fingers started trembling uncontrollably.

The private room fell silent for a second.

Then harsh laughter erupted around me.

“Don’t cry,” Ethan said casually. “It’s not like I’m leaving you.”

He even reached out as if he were going to wipe away my tears.

I slapped him across the face.

My palm went numb, and my fingers were still shaking.

Ethan turned his head slightly and pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek.

“You can’t even handle this?”

“You haven’t even apologized to Claire yet.”

…

I felt cold all over.

Humiliation, betrayal, and unbearable pain crashed over me at once.

The tears came before I could stop them.

I’d spent three full months looking forward to this wedding.

I’d even handed off one of my work projects to someone else just so I could make enough time to prepare for it.

I’d even put up with all the wedding pranks because I wanted to fit in with Ethan’s friends.

I wanted to be part of his world.

And now he was telling me the whole thing had been designed to punish me for another woman.

My fingers clenched around my wedding gown.

The tiny stones on the gown dug painfully into my palm.

Ethan glanced down at the dress and sighed.

“Come to think of it, Claire wore that gown before you. You two are actually alike in a lot of ways.”

Claire had worn it?

Ethan had told me a wedding only happened once in a lifetime.

He’d said he wanted me to be the most beautiful woman there, so he’d had a French designer custom-make the gown for me.

The back was low-cut, sexy, and bold.

It wasn’t really my style.

But Ethan loved it, so I’d agreed to wear it.

And now I knew the truth.

Even my wedding gown had belonged to someone else first.

I forced back my tears and looked at him.

“Why?”

“If you already had a wife, why did you come after me?”

“Why would you humiliate me like this?”

Ethan reached out and gently wiped the tears from my face.

His voice was still soft, almost exasperated.

“Why are you crying again?”

“How am I supposed to feel okay about taking you to the hospital when you’re like this?”

I shoved him away.

“I’m not going.”

“We’re done.”

I finally lost control and swung at him.

This time, Ethan caught my wrist easily.

“Stop making a scene.”

“Claire and I only have a marriage of convenience.”

“I was planning to keep this from Claire. I never meant for you to find out either.”

“But you had to post about the wedding on social media and make everything public.”

My entire body went stiff.

Cold spread through me from the inside out.

Just yesterday, he’d held me tightly in his arms and whispered about our future.

He’d said we’d have a four-bedroom home and could set up a nursery ahead of time.

He’d said my parents were getting older, so we could move them closer.

He’d even said we’d buy them a place nearby so I could see them every day.

He’d talked about taking me to Hokkaido and Iceland for our honeymoon.

He’d already thought about names for our future children.

And now…

I was the other woman in someone else’s marriage.

With trembling hands, I pulled out my phone while Ethan wasn’t looking and sent my parents a message.

Once we reached the hospital, I turned to leave.

But I hadn’t even had time to change out of my wedding gown.

The heavy skirt tangled around my legs.

I tripped and fell, bruising my arm.

Ethan crouched beside me with an exasperated sigh and gently ruffled my hair.

“It’s okay.”

“Nothing’s going to happen.”

“You’re just going to apologize to Claire.”

“I’m here. What are you so afraid of?”

Then, ignoring my resistance, he forced me into the hospital room.

The hospital room door suddenly opened.

The noise inside stopped instantly.

I barely had time to see who was standing in front of me before a slap cracked across my face.

I staggered and nearly fell.

“Bitch!”

“My sister miscarried because of you!”

My cheek burned.

I instinctively recoiled, only for Ethan to shove me forward from behind.

That was when I finally saw the man who had hit me.

He was tall, his face twisted with anger.

And for some reason, his features looked strangely familiar.

Without thinking, I turned to Ethan for help.

“Ethan…”

I wanted him to explain.

To tell them I wasn’t a mistress.

That I’d been lied to, too.

But Ethan only stared at me coldly.

The lazy ease from earlier was gone.

He looked like a stranger.

“Apologize to Claire.”
