leave.

I did not hesitate for even a second.

I packed my things at lightning speed and smiled brightly. “Sounds good! It’s been a pleasure working with

you. Hope things work out this time!”

The moment I opened the door, I ran straight into her.

She stood there, poised and distant, as flawless as a magazine cover. Her gaze flicked from me to the

luggage in my hand, confusion flashing across her face.

“You’re… just leaving like that?”

I took her hand, looking at her with deep sympathy. “Miss, do you know the rules for taking care of him?”

She instinctively shook her head.

I sighed, my expression turning almost pitying.

“You have to serve him water at exactly five in the morning, at the precise temperature he prefers. When he

listens to classical music, you are not allowed to show any expression at all. When his stomach acts up, you

need to tear up and say ‘don’t leave me’ three times.”

I paused, then added gravely, “Most importantly, he has severe communication issues. You will have to guess what he wants. All the time.”

Her perfectly composed face slowly started to crack.

I swung my black industrial trash bag over my shoulder like a free woman. “Good luck. I hope you live a long

life. I’m going back to my farm life!”

“Ding! Five million dollars has been deposited into your account!”

I was lying in my two-thousand-square-foot luxury apartment, wearing a ridiculously expensive face mask.

The moment I heard that heavenly notification, I practically launched myself off the couch.

Three years.

I, Brittany Rhodes, had finally made it to the finish line!

“You’ve been very obedient these past few years,” Killian said, tossing the folder onto the coffee table.

“There’s a five-million-dollar check in there, along with an apartment. Consider it compensation.”

“I don’t need the apartment! Can I get cash instead, boss?” I blurted out.

The room went silent.

Killian stared at me like he was witnessing some kind of medical anomaly.

“Brittany Rhodes, what’s gotten into you?” he scoffed. “Trying to get my attention with this little act? Playing

hard to get doesn’t work on me.”

“No, Mr. Blackwood, you misunderstood!” I quickly grabbed the check, carefully dusted it off, and tucked it

into my chest like treasure.

“What I mean is, real estate takes too long to liquidate. I need cash urgently to buy land back in a small town. Could you add another two million and buy out the apartment from me?”

His expression went completely dark.
