The Alpha Who Killed Me Now Calls Me Mother Chapter 03 The Trap At The Window
After getting dressed, I remembered what Craig had whispered before leaving that morning. Leaning close to my ear, he had said, “When I come back, I’ll make this right.” At the time, I had not asked what he intended to do. He had marked me, and I was carrying his child. Naturally, he would marry me when he returned. Only a few days had passed, yet each one seemed endless. Word of my confrontation with Jane had already swept through Mooncrest Court. No one cared about the truth. In their version, I was a lowborn Omega who had tried to climb into Ashton’s bed and been exposed in public. Ashton even gathered the entire household staff to make a cold announcement. “Jane is the woman I have chosen, and she will be the only Luna of this estate.” “From today on, you will obey and respect her exactly as you obey and respect me.” That was all the staff needed to know which side to take. “Did you hear what Evelyn Stone did?” “I heard she hooked up with one of the gate guards. An Omega housekeeper seducing a Beta while she was on duty? She’s disgusting.” “Exactly. And they call her an honors graduate? She’s lower than a Rogue.” Ashton passed close enough to hear every word. His face turned dark, but he simply walked away. Eager to please the future Luna, the servants began defying and tormenting me openly. They scattered mud and pebbles through my meals until swallowing a bite became impossible. Someone kept soaking my blanket as well, leaving it too wet to use. “Your blanket is wet again, Ms. Stone?” Jane stood beside me with her arms folded, malice bright in her smile. “Those maids are terrible. I can’t believe they would treat you this way.” I turned my face aside, refusing to look at her false concern, and kept spreading the blanket across the drying rack. … The rumors grew uglier by the day. Some people said to my face that I had only earned a place at Mooncrest Realm’s university by seducing Betas. According to them, I had taken the housekeeper’s job at Mooncrest Court solely to lure powerful Alphas and Betas into bed. They even knocked on my door in the middle of the night to see whether I was sleeping alone. “She wasn’t in her room last night. Think she slipped into the guards’ quarters?” “My bet is Beta Sean Hatton. He was alone in his room last night.” I swept them with a frigid look. For now, I had no interest in confronting them directly. Jane had stirred them up because she wanted their cruelty to drive me away. I was heading back to my room when Ashton came home and stepped into my path. One hand slammed me against the wall. The other closed hard around my throat. “Do you need men so badly that you can’t go a single night without one?” His face was blank, but naked contempt filled his eyes. Alpha pressure crashed down on me. My body shook. I tried to wrench free, but the force of his rank drained every bit of strength from my limbs. “You actually believe that garbage? I shouldn’t be surprised. Your mind has always been that shallow.” I forced out each word while staring into his eyes. Anger flashed across his face. “Shameless bitch. What wouldn’t a worthless Omega like you do for power?” He glared at me, and I held his gaze without yielding. I thought my resistance had enraged him. Instead, he suddenly said, “Evelyn, I can keep you as my woman, but Jane will be my Luna. That position belongs to her alone.” My vision nearly went black. How blind had I been to ever love a man like this? “Never.” His free hand seized my jaw. “What? You would rather whore around with other men? Don’t push your luck, Evelyn. You will be mine, or else…” His fingers dug into my face until pain throbbed through my cheeks. I struggled again, but his Alpha pressure made every effort useless. After studying me for a long moment, he abruptly let go. I dragged in a breath, only for him to stroke my cheek. Something dark and intimate entered his eyes. “Behave, and although I can’t marry you, you may ask me for anything else.” I frowned. “What the hell are you talking about, Ashton? I said no.” He exploded. Grabbing my hair, he smashed my head against the wall. “So you only came here to sleep with other Betas? Then get out! This estate has no need for a scheming Omega housekeeper like you.” I took the opportunity to twist away and run. Leaving Mooncrest Court would suit me. This place was hardly safe for my pregnancy. But the moment I turned the corner, Jane appeared and blocked my way. She stared at me through clenched teeth. “Why are you trying to steal my man, Evelyn?” The accusation almost made me laugh, but all I wanted was to leave. I stepped around her and kept walking. “Ms. Stone, don’t do this!” Jane suddenly screamed the words at the top of her lungs. When I turned, she shoved open the window and threw herself from the second floor without hesitation.
