Reborn to Marry the Right Mafia Brother Chapter 10

Reborn to Marry the Right Mafia Brother Chapter 10

When I arrive at Dante’s cell, he is sitting on the edge of the bed, carefully straightening a blanket

at is already folded to perfection.

Still the same as ever.

The man has an almost pathological obsession with keeping everything in order.

Hearing my footsteps, he looks up. The moment he sees me, he actually smiles.

“Annette. You’re smarter than I gave you credit for. And you’re a much better actress than I

expected.”

He slowly gets to his feet, his eyes crawling over me like a snake.

“You know, I really believed you wanted to be with me.”

“I was already making plans. Once I got rid of Lucien and Simone, I was going to keep you by my

side.”

“And then?”

He lets out a laugh.

“You gave me one hell of a surprise.”

“You had it coming.”

I glare at him.

Memories from my previous life keep flashing through my mind.

His fists. His cold voice. All those days when he made my life a living hell.

The face in front of me slowly merges with the demon from my memories.

The anger burning in my chest grows stronger by the second.

Dante walks toward the cell door and looks me up and down.

“If I hadn’t ended up in here…”

His smile makes my stomach turn.

“Guess what I would have done to you?”

“I would have taught you all over again what it means to obey.”

I can’t listen to another word.

“Dante, you’re going straight to hell.”

I turn and walk away, his twisted laughter following me from behind.

Even after I leave the underground cells, my breathing still hasn’t returned to normal.

That twisted, sick expression stays in my mind like a shadow.

But at least this time, I finally get away from him. I never have to live under his control again.

That night, Lucien comes home.

He has clearly had quite a bit to drink.

The moment he steps into the penthouse, he staggers toward me. The next second, he practically

falls on top of me.

“Lucien!”

He is too heavy for me to hold up, and we both tumble onto the carpet.

“You’re drunk.”

I struggle to push him off.

“I’ll get you something to sober you up.”

But he doesn’t move.

Instead, he slowly loosens his tie.

His gray-blue eyes stay fixed on me, filled with unmistakable possessiveness.

His breath brushes against my face.

That’s when I realize something.

He isn’t drunk at all.

“Lucien.”

I look at him warily.

“You’d better think carefully about what you’re doing.”

“We agreed this is just a business arrangement. You can’t touch me.”

Lucien braces one hand beside me and lowers his voice.

“A business arrangement?”

“Annette, no matter what agreement we signed, you’re still Mrs. Falcone.”

“And you’re my wife.”

I shove him away and sit up.

“No. I was already planning to divorce you.”

The moment the words leave my mouth, the entire room falls silent.

The smile disappears from Lucien’s face.

His eyes slowly turn cold.

But the next second, he lets me go.

“I knew it.”

His voice is low and restrained.

“I always knew you wanted to leave me.”

He looks almost hurt.

“Annette. You really are cruel.”

“Have you forgotten me already?”

I stare at him.

“What do you mean?”

Lucien looks straight at me.

“Luke F.”

The name strikes me like lightning, tearing straight through the fog in my memory.

When I was in elementary school, there was a boy at my school.

He had long hair and always wore a baseball cap, keeping himself almost completely hidden.

The other kids constantly made fun of him. They called him a girl and said he was weak and weird.

One day, I couldn’t stand watching it anymore.

I stepped in, chased the kids away, and took him to the lake behind the school.

I remember standing there with my hands on my hips and telling him:

“You can’t keep letting people walk all over you.”

“You have to learn how to protect yourself.”

The boy stays silent for a long time before slowly looking up and taking off his cap.

“Thank you.”

“I just want to grow my hair out.”

He looks down as he explains, “When it’s long enough, I want to cut it off and donate it to my aunt

She has cancer.”

I freeze.

That is the first time I really see his face.

He is so beautiful that I can’t find the words for a moment.

Then he tells me,

“My name is Lucien.”

From that day on, I stay with him almost every day.

Whenever someone bullies him, I am the first one to step in.

I even naively believe that I am the one protecting him all this time.

But then, one day, he suddenly transfers to another school.

For years, I wonder where he went.

I come back to my senses and stare at the man in front of me in disbelief.

“Luke F…”

“It was you?”

Lucien gives me a bitter smile.

“Finally remembered me?”

I open my mouth, but no words come out.

Lucien slowly continues.

“I’ve been looking for you all these years.”

“wasn’t until the day you started hearing other people’s thoughts that I finally knew for sure you were the one I had been looking for.”

I freeze.

“How did you know I could hear people’s thoughts?”

Lucien looks at me.

“Because I can hear them too.”

I am completely stunned.

So…

The things I heard that night at the gala really were his thoughts.

“That bloodstained cufflink.”

Lucien continues, “Do you still have it?”

I instinctively reach for my bag.

I have kept the cufflink with me this entire time.

“When we were choosing our husbands, I saw you. So I slipped it into your bag.”

“That thing lets us hear other people’s thoughts.”

He pauses.

“Later, I deliberately said those things in my head because I wanted to make sure you had the same ability.”

My mind is in complete chaos.

So none of this was a coincidence.

“Then why didn’t you tell me?”

Lucien’s expression darkens.

“Because I wanted you to remember me.”

“I wanted to know whether you would recognize me on your own, so I waited.”

His voice grows quieter.

“But later, I heard your thoughts. You said that once you saved enough money, you would leave

My heart jolts.

“So that’s why you’ve been avoiding me all this time?”

Lucien doesn’t deny it.

“I was trying to figure out how to keep you from leaving.”

His eyes are actually slightly red.

I suddenly don’t know what to say.

The man who seems capable of handling anything in this world is afraid of being left behind too.

I lower my head.

“I’m sorry.”

Lucien says nothing.

I tighten my fingers.

“I never meant to use you.”

“I just… I was abandoned so completely in my previous life.”

“So this time, I keep telling myself that the only things I can truly rely on are money and myself.”

“I work so hard to make money because I’m terrified of ending up with nothing again.”

Lucien watches me in silence.

After a long moment, he finally asks,

“What about now?”

“Do you still want to leave me?”

I look at him and slowly shake my head.

I wanted to leave because I thought he didn’t love me.

I thought this marriage was nothing more than another transaction.

I thought I could never find real happiness by relying on a ruthless Don, so I wanted to leave myself

a way out.

But now, I finally know the truth.

The man standing in front of me has remembered me all this time.

And he has been waiting for me all this time.

I suddenly understand why Lucien was so resistant to Simone in my previous life.

Because from the very beginning, he knew she wasn’t the woman he had been looking for.

My eyes slowly grow hot.

Lucien reaches out and gently touches my cheek before lowering his head and pressing a soft kiss to my forehead.

“Annette. Stay with me.”

“For life.”

My tears finally fall.

“Okay.”

I wrap my arms around him, “For the rest of our lives.”

In this moment, I suddenly realize that maybe being given a second chance at life isn’t about choosing a richer or more powerful man.

It’s about learning that this time, I can survive on my own, and when I finally find real love, I don’t have to run away because I’m afraid of losing it.

Thankfully, fate gives me a second chance.

This time, I don’t miss him again.
