My Brother’s Girlfriend Set Rules For Me, Until Karma Came For Her Chapter 01

My twin brother Grayson Whitmore got a new girlfriend.

On his birthday, he brought her out to meet me. I greeted her politely first.

“Hi, I’m Sienna.”

I didn’t expect her to roll her eyes.

“Don’t ‘hi’ me like I’m nobody. I’m younger than you, so don’t act like you’re above me. And didn’t anyone teach you manners? You should be calling me your brother’s girlfriend. Or better yet, the future Mrs. Whitmore.”

I stopped talking.

Grayson scratched the back of his head, looking a little helpless.

“Come on, Sienna. Just humor her, okay? I’ll double your trust allowance next month.”

I lit up immediately.

“Thanks, Gary.”

I didn’t expect the woman to suddenly cover her face and scream.

“Did you just call him ‘Gray’? All sweet like that? That’s my pet name for him! We use it when we’re alone! Have you no shame?”

Grayson panicked and pulled her into his arms, coaxing and kissing up to her.

“Okay, okay, my queen. I won’t let her call me that anymore, all right?”

***

I laughed because I was too done to even speak.

When I laughed out loud, Paige was pretty crying in my brother’s arms.

“See? She’s laughing! Like my feelings don’t even matter!”

Grayson quickly shot me a look, eyes twitching like he was having a spasm.

I thought about the double monthly trust allowance next month and held my temper.

“Okay, okay. You got it wrong. I just think you two are perfect together.”

Paige’s expression eased a little, but she still wasn’t happy.

I handed her the menu. “Here. You can order first.”

She looked me up and down but didn’t move.

My hand hung in the air, and anger suddenly rushed into my chest.

Grayson quickly took it.

He looked at Paige with a flattering smile. “You must be starving, huh? Here, baby. Look at the menu. Get whatever you want.”

She took the menu reluctantly. A few seconds later, she frowned.

“What a rip-off. A $6 beer gets poured into a glass here and sold as a $24 cocktail.”

Grayson kissed up immediately.

“Baby, you’re so good with money. But it’s my birthday today, so I’m treating. Don’t worry, order whatever you want.”

Smack!

Paige slammed the menu shut and glared at him.

“Why should you treat? Aren’t you two born on the same day? Why isn’t she paying?”

“Oh, it’s fine. Your boyfriend can afford one meal. Besides, if my parents find out I made my sister pay on our birthday while they’re overseas, they’ll fly back and kill me—”

Bang!

Paige slapped the table. Her eyes went red instantly.

“Grayson, what did you promise me before we got together?”

“You promised you’d take care of me forever. You said you’d never let me get hurt. So what the hell is this?”

“I’m not even a Whitmore yet, and you’re already siding with them? Throwing your parents in my face?”

“You’re one family. I’m the outsider. Fine, I’ll leave!”

She grabbed her bag and started to get up. Grayson quickly grabbed her.

“Baby, come on. We’re gonna be family anyway. Don’t be like this.”

“How about… I make her pay me back later?”

“That’s more like it.”

Paige glanced sideways at me and picked up the menu again.

Sooner or later family? Split the bill?

A subtle smile curled at the corner of my mouth.

My iPhone buzzed. Grayson had secretly transferred $5,000 to my account.

[Chill. I’ll pay you back after we split the check. Treat yourself.]

I accepted the payment instantly. Hesitating even one second would have been disrespectful to myself.

While we waited for the food, Paige fixed her eyes on me again.

“Sienna, right? Designer bags, designer clothes. You must burn through money like it’s nothing.”

“I heard you studied abroad for years. Majored in business management, right? So how do you not even know how to handle money? At this rate, can the Whitmores even afford you? Don’t drag my Grayson down.”

I took a sip of tea.

I silently reminded myself a hundred times that Grayson was my biological brother, and only then did I suppress the urge to snap back.

“You’re right. When my parents come back, I’ll make it clear to them. I won’t spend your boyfriend’s money anymore.”

Paige gave a satisfied hum.

“Grayson’s eyes went wide. Then he started coughing so hard he couldn’t stop.”

Paige quickly handed him a glass of water and was about to say something.

Grayson waved his hand, face red from coughing.

“Oh, by the way, baby—the gift. Come on, take it out. I had someone wait in line seven hours overseas for it.”

Paige’s expression changed. She slammed the glass down on the table.

“You two have had birthdays for over twenty years. What’s there to give each other gifts for? So dramatic.”

This time Grayson didn’t comfort her immediately.

Instead, he picked up the gift box from the floor nearby and presented it to me like a treasure.

“Look, do you like it?”

Just from the packaging, I recognized it instantly—the limited-edition lace babydoll dress I’d been trying to get online for half a year.

I smiled.

But when I opened the box and saw the wrinkled fabric inside, my smile froze completely.
