His Thoughts Loved Me, His Cruelty Destroyed Me Chapter 01

I had barely stepped out of the Pack clinic when my Alpha mate’s voice suddenly echoed in my head.

[“Did I really push my Luna into the clinic? Goddess, I feel so bad for her!”]

[“I don’t know if bringing her stepsister to provoke her today will work. I just want to talk to Rowan!”]

My feet stumbled. I must be hallucinating.

Then the car window rolled down.

Sitting in the passenger seat was my father’s illegitimate daughter—my father being a Beta Elder of our pack.

She was hugging the cushion I gave my fiance, leaning against the heated backrest I bought him.

An apologetic look washed over her face.

“Rowan, I’m on my period. It’s so uncomfortable. The back seat was just too rough.”

Lachlan glared at me hard.

“Tamsin has cramps. You’re a female wolf—show some empathy.”

My fingers froze on the door handle.

My lips parted slightly.

Before I could utter a word, Lachlan’s panicked voice invaded my mind again.

[“Why isn’t Rowan talking to me? Doesn’t she hate Tamsin the most? Tamsin’s mother destroyed my wife’s family just to take her mother’s place!”]

[“I put the person she hates most in the front seat. Is she really not going to react at all?”]

[“Even if she screams at me or claws me, it’s fine. Please, just talk to me.”]

[“Three full days of silence! My wolf is going insane!”]

I let go of the handle.

Turned around.

And slid into the back seat.

The rear door slammed shut.

Dead silence filled the car.

Lachlan gripped the steering wheel tightly.

Then, his voice echoed in my head again.

[“She actually sat in the back?”]

[“Not even a single protest howl?”]

[“What on earth happened?”]

[“Does she really not care about me anymore?”]

Tamsin glanced at me oddly. “It’s fine, Lachlan. I’ll just sit in the back.”

With that, she opened her door and stepped out.

Lachlan shot his arm out, grabbing her wrist.

“Who said you could sit in the back?”

Tamsin looked back at me, her eyes glistening with pity-inducing tears.

She bit her lip, weakly struggling against his grip.

“Lachlan, let go of me. Let me go.”

“Look, Rowan is angry.”

I raised my head.

“I’m not angry. Stay up front.”

They both froze.

[“She’s not angry? She’s doing this on purpose to spite me, right?”]

[“I pushed things this far. How could she not be angry?”]

[“Babe, tell me you hate this. Tell me to kick her out!”]

[“Tell me you need your Alpha…”]

So…

Every time Lachlan picked a fight with me, this was what he was thinking?

Did he even realize what happened during our brutal fight three days ago?

Did he even remember how that fight had ended—and why I had spent the next three days at the Pack clinic?

My hand pressed hard against my lower abdomen.

I kept my eyes fixed on Tamsin.

“Sit.”

Lachlan stared at me in disbelief. His grip on Tamsin’s wrist trembled slightly.

Tamsin noticed.

Her lips thinned into a line.

“It’s alright, Lachlan. I’ll take a cab. I don’t want to be a burden.”

Then she turned to me, looking remorseful.

“I’m sorry, Rowan. I shouldn’t have asked for a ride just because I felt sick. I’m leaving right now!”

Despite her words, her fingers fumbled clumsily with the seatbelt buckle.

Lachlan yanked her back into the seat with ease.

He glared at me through the rearview mirror, fuming.

“Rowan, does the whole world have to cater to your temper?”

“I said she stays in the front!”

“Who are you putting on this show for? You know Tamsin is insecure about being illegitimate, yet you pull a trick like this to drive her away!”

I stared at him, incredulous.

“You…”

“Stop it, please! Just stop!”

Tamsin waved her hands frantically.

“It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have had cramps today. If you two fight because of me, I’ll never forgive myself!”

“Lachlan, I’ll call a cab!”

This time, the seatbelt unclicked.

She swung one leg out.

“Stay put!”

Lachlan’s fingers closed around her wrist once more.

His eyes flashed with a hint of crimson red wolf light as he looked back at me.

“Rowan, Tamsin is in severe pain!”

He gritted out each word as if I had committed an unforgivable sin.

I looked straight back at him.

“That’s why I didn’t let her leave. Isn’t it?”

“You…”

Speechless.

Meeting my dead, emotionless eyes, a harsh sneer ripped from his chest.

“No wonder your father always loved Tamsin more.”

For a split second, I nearly stopped breathing.
