Tess was already scared out of her wits, cowering timidly behind my parents.

Seth then spotted me on the stage. His expression softened at once, and he hurried over with a

respectful smile. “Ms. Brooks, I didn’t expect to see you here.”

Murmurs broke out among the crowd.

“Ms. Brooks? Why does Mr. Shawn show Elaine Brooks so much respect?”

“Don’t tell me she’s also involved with him?”

Before the gossip could spiral further out of control, Seth barked sharply.

“Shut your filthy mouths!”

“Watch how you speak!”

“Ms. Brooks saved my life!”

“When I was being hunted overseas years ago, she was the one who pulled me out. I owe her my

life.”

The whispers died instantly.

Even Jasper, covered in embarrassment and mess, stared at me in shock. “You… you had this kind of connection with Mr. Shawn? Why didn’t you say anything sooner?”

I let out a cold laugh. “What difference would it have made? Would all of this still not have happened today?”

Jasper’s jaw tightened, and a flicker of fear flashed across his face.

The bald man strode over to my parents, grabbed the hiding Tess by the arm, and dragged her out.

“Boss, this is the woman right here-the liar who scammed me.”

“She lied and said she was pregnant with my kid, told me she’d give birth if I paid her five million.”

“I handed over the money, and then she vanished without a trace!”

“Luckily a friend at the hospital saw her come in for an abortion and passed me her information.”

He pulled out an abortion surgery consent form and held it up for everyone to see.

“It was only after seeing this that I found out she’d changed her name to Tess Brooks!”

The form bore Tess’s clear signature.

No amount of denial could save her now.

I took the microphone and addressed the entire banquet hall.

“Earlier, Tess accused me of sneaking into the obstetrics and gynecology clinic. Let me tell you exactly why I went.”

“I’d found records of her abortion and went to the hospital to verify them. I kept a low profile only to protect her reputation.”

The venue erupted in shock.
