Reborn: Revenge On My Wife & Her Fake Confidant Chapter 04 She Came in Time

The collision sent Vanessa’s car hurtling into a roadside tree.

It flipped over.

The body crumpled inward, one tire tore free, and the entire vehicle ended up twisted out of shape.

The car that had rammed hers, however, suffered little more than a dented front end.

Even Mason had not expected the situation to turn this way.

His face went white, and he stood there at a loss.

The driver’s door opened.

A woman stepped out.

Riley.

She rolled one shoulder and said, “Good. I made it in time.”

Then she saw what had been done to me.

Riley immediately went to her trunk, grabbed her tools, and worked quickly to free me from the wreck.

“Didn’t we agree you’d wait for me?”

She frowned at my injuries.

“You ran off on your own, and this is what happened? They nearly beat you to pieces.”

My head kept swimming.

I forced my mouth open.

“Thanks. You got here… right on time.”

Then everything went black.

Mason finally seemed to recover from the shock.

He did not dare confront Riley, so he rushed to Vanessa instead.

“Vanessa! Vanessa! Are you okay?”

Blood covered Vanessa’s head.

She had already lost consciousness.

The next time I woke, I was lying in a hospital bed.

A thick layer of bandages wrapped my head.

The hospital room around me was empty and silent.

I tried to move my body just a little.

A sharp pain immediately/tore through my abdomen.

“Adrian Cole! Why are you moving?”

Riley set down the hot-water kettle in her hands and hurried over to help me fie flat again.

Finished

“You broke three ribs. You have four separate wounds on your head, and the largest one freeded almost twenty stitches.”

She stared at me.

“And don’t tell me you haven’t noticed you’re dizzy.”

I closed my eyes against the nausea and gave a faint, “Mm.”

“Exactly. You also have a concussion.”

Riley poured me some warm water and guided a straw between my lips.

“So stop trying to be tough. Stay still and recover.”

The water soothed my dry lips.

Once my head cleared a little, I asked, “Vanessa and Mason?”

Riley curled her lip.

“Alive.”

Then she added, clearly annoyed, “I hit her way too lightly. I can’t believe that psycho survived.”

I looked at Riley, guilt tugging at me.

“Sorry. I dragged you into all this mess.”

My gaze moved over her.

“You weren’t hurt, were you?”

Riley lifted a hand as if she meant to clap me on the shoulder.

Halfway down, she apparently remembered how badly injured I was and changed the motion into a gentle

touch.

“You’re my friend. If I don’t help you, who will?”

Her expression darkened.

“Vanessa brought this on herself. She and Mason have done every rotten thing they could think of. It’s honestly a shame I did hit her harel enough to leave her crippled”

“Riley, you’re a woman. Maybe don’t sound quite so eager to run people over. You can go to prison for killing someone.”

She rolled her eyes.

“If she has the nerve to sue me, I have the nerve to take her down with me.”

Her naive bravado made me laugh.

Still, the legal risk was very real.

For the first month of my recovery, neither side made another move.

I had trained regularly for years, so my physical condition was better than average.

I was discharged earlier than expected.

Vanessa was waiting for me outside the hospital.

She sat in a wheelchair, pale and visibly unwell, but the anger in her eyes was as strong as ever.

“Adrian Cole, look at what you did to me!”

I gave a derisive laugh.

“You did it to yourself. Who else are you going to blame?”

“You told Riley to ram my car, didn’t you?”

My expression remained cold.

“Maybe I did. Maybe I didn’t. What difference does it make?”

Vanessa’s face twisted.

“I’m your wife! How can you be this heartless?”

I laughed.

“Heartless? Weren’t you the one who tried to have me killed first?”

Something complicated flickered in her eyes.

After a moment, she said, “I was angry. I never actually meant for you to die.”

I bent over laughing.

When I finally straightened, I looked at her.

“Enough. What did you really come here for?”
