My Mate Killed Me For My Sister, I Became Luna Of His Enemy Chapter 17

My Mate Killed Me For My Sister, I Became Luna Of His Enemy Chapter 17 Alpha Challenge

Silas’s POV

I didn’t sleep that night.

Not for lack of trying. The holding cell beneath the packhouse was better than the dungeon. At least they’d given me that much. A real bed and a blanket. Water.

I just kept seeing Bella’s face. She was so radiant. So powerful and so in control. The pack had been in awe of her. So had I.

I saw it so clearly now. What I’d really thrown away. If I just helped her. If I had just listened to her and got her the medicine she needed.

“FUCK!”

I slammed my hand so hard into the wall that it broke my knuckles.

Sometime around midnight, the walls started pressing in on me. My wolf paced all night, back and forth, back and forth.

Had I made the right decision? Caleb was powerful. Had I been crazy to accept the challenge?

Should I have just accepted my punishment? It would strip me of my title. But I’d still be part of the pack.

If I lost, the life of a rogue was….well… I couldn’t let myself even think about it.

I got up before dawn. I stretched. I rolled my shoulders.

I thought about Caleb. The man was a big, easily six-three, two hundred and twenty pounds. His wolf would be big too.

The odds were bad. I knew that. But my wolf was proud, and desperate wolves fight harder than comfortable ones. It was the only edge I had.

That and Bella. I was fighting for her. I was fighting to get her back. That one

thought surged through me. It was give me hope. It would give me strength.

It was a little after dawn when I heard footsteps coming down the corridor.

The cell door opened and Danny stepped in.

He looked like he hadn’t slept either. He carried a bundle of fresh clothes. Dark and simple. Fighting clothes.

“The crowd’s already gathering,” he said, as he set the bundle on the bed. “The whole pack’s out there. Plus wolves from three neighboring territories. Word traveled fast.”

“It always does,” I said.

I pulled on the clothes. They fit well. Danny knew my size.

“If I fall…” I began.

“Don’t.” He held up his hand.

“Danny.”

He met my eyes. “If you fall,” I continued. “I want you to be the one that brings me to border. You exile me. No one else. Okay?”

His jaw tightened. “You’re my Alpha, Silas. Right or wrong. You’re my Alpha. I will do as you ask.”

I nodded.

“Good,” I told him.

Then we left the holding cell and made our way out to the fighting ground.

The fighting ground was a wide, flat clearing behind the lodge. It was ringed by ancient oak trees. The ground was packed dirt, hard and smooth.

Wolves packed the perimeter. Hundreds of them, pressed shoulder to shoulder

along the tree line.

Alpha challenges didn’t happen often. Everyone wanted to watch.

The Elders stood on a raised platform at the north end. At the south end of the clearing, Bella and Caleb stood together. Bella’s dark hair was pulled back from her face. Her eyes caught mine for a brief moment as I walked by.

My breath hitched. She looked away.

I walked to the center of the clearing.

The crowd fell silent. It was amazing how fast they’d turned on me. I’d been their alpha for over a decade. But they all looked at me with derision. Danny walked along side me, my faithful Beta right to the bitter end.

When we reached the center of the circle, he gave me a quick nod.

“Fight well,” he said. “Fight hard.”

“I plan to,” I told him.

Then he stepped aside and made his way to the front of the line.

I shifted.

My human body broke apart and re-formed. Baxter emerged, with his black fur and silver markings. He was big, bigger than most wolves. For a moment, the crowd just watched in awe. Even though they hated me, Baxter was still an alpha wolf. And an alpha wolf demanded respect.

Baxter settled into a fighting stance. He went low, his teeth bared. The morning air was sharp. It carried the scent of a hundred watching wolves.

There was nothing to do now but wait.

Baxter fixed his eyes on Caleb. It was time for him to shift.

He didn’t, though. He didn’t shift.

Instead, Caleb stepped to the side. He did calmly. Deliberately.

He moved out of the center of the clearing. My wolf tilted its head. Confusion rippled through the crowd. People murmured. Why wasn’t Caleb shifting. There was no way to back out of this. Once a challenge was made and accepted, it was a done deal.

And that’s when I saw it. The space that Caleb had been blocking.

Bella stepped forward.

She rolled her shoulders. She closed her eyes.

And then she shifted.

The transformation was like nothing I’d ever seen. It was violent and forceful. Her wolf ripped out of her with so much speed, I barely saw her shift.

The power of her shift came off of her in waves, visible waves that rippled through the air. Some of the people were hit by the waves. They staggered backwards.

And then, in a burst of light, her wolf emerged.

Snow was massive. With fur so white, it was blinding in the sun. She was easily my size, maybe bigger. Her eyes blazed gold.

The crowd gasped. Wolves in the front row scrambled backward. Several wolves, strong ones, warriors….they involuntarily lowered their heads. They were pressed down by the weight of her presence.

Of her ALPHA presence.

My wolf took an involuntary step backward.

“Good God,” I heard someone whisper. Baxter snarled. He bared his teeth.

And for the first time in my life, I felt it…

My wolf was afraid.

The white wolf lowered her head. Her lips peeled back from teeth. Her fur shone like polished bone.

She snarled-and the sound was not a snarl. It was a declaration. A promise. The sound of the earth splitting open.

The fight hadn’t started, and I already knew how it would end.
