My Mate Killed Me For My Sister, I Became Luna Of His Enemy Chapter 13

My Mate Killed Me For My Sister, I Became Luna Of His Enemy Chapter 13 Regret

Silas’s POV

The pack was gathered for the mid-summer banquet, which was a banquet we could not afford.

But no one knew that.

I stood on the balcony of the packhouse, my hands on the railing. A bonfire pit was stacked in the clearing. On the surface, it looked like every other every celebration.

The surface was all we had left.

It had been one month since Bella died. One month since I stood in a wizard’s ritual room and held her cold hand. One month of sleepless nights, her face haunting me in my dreams.

One month of too much wine, trying to push the truth far away from me.

I’d killed her. It was as much my fault as it was Madison’s. I’d put my trust and faith in the wrong sister. I saw it all clearly now.

But now it was too late.

The elders had banished Madison. She’d been tossed from our pack borders and reduced to a rogue status. I had no idea where she was now. Quite frankly, I didn’t

care.

I had more important things to worry about it.

My pack was fracturing.

The treasury was down to emergency reserves. I’d conducted the audit myself. I’d gone through every line item, every transaction, every allocation for the past three years. The numbers were damning.

Madison’s spending was over the top. Designer wardrobes. Imported furnishings. Lavish parties. She’d wasted it all.

And I’d let her.

How was I supposed to tell my pack what a fool I’d been? They lose respect for me. They’d turn on me.

And then there was the military. They were in even worse shape. Five warriors had left in the past month. They’d joined other packs. We had neighboring packs were circling us. The Crescent Blood Moon Pack had crossed our eastern border three times in the past two weeks.

They were testing our borders. And our borders were weak.

Word had spread about Bella. Not the official version, the real one about a ritual gone wrong, a tragic accident. The real version.

Everyone knew what had really happened. Her sister had hired a wizard to rip her wolf from her. And I’d allowed it to happen.

The pack was already looking at me differently now. If they knew the truth about our financials and miliary?

It would be truly awful.

I turned from the balcony and walked inside, to my study. Danny was already waiting with a bottle of whiskey and two glasses. My Beta. My oldest friend. The only wolf in this pack who still looked me in the eye without flinching.

He poured two glasses and slid one across the desk to me.

I sat down and drank. The whiskey burned.

“How bad is it?” I asked. I knew he had news for me. I braced myself.

“The Crescent Blood Moon Pack sent another patrol across the eastern ridge yesterday.” His voice was a low rumble. “Four wolves. They crossed the scent line and ran a half-mile circuit before retreating. They wanted us to know.”

“Did we respond?”

“We responded. Two of our remaining senior warriors tracked them to the border. But Silas…” He leaned forward. “We’re running out of wolves who can track anything to anywhere. If they push, for real… we won’t be able to hold them.””

I drained my glass and poured another.

“I miss her,” I said.

The words came out before I could stop them. They hung in the air between us. Danny didn’t look surprised.

“Bella,” he said.

“I really miss her.” I stared into the glass. “She was loyal. And steady. She showed up for me. You know? Stood by my side. And I treated her like…”

I stopped.

Danny nodded slowly. He knew about everything. I’d told him in a late-night confession, about all of it. The sickness, the contracts. Everything.

“She came to me for help,” I said. “And I turned her away. Because Madison told me to. Because I was so goddamn convinced that I was supposed to be with Madison. That Bella was the manipulative one. I couldn’t see what was right in front of me.”

“You didn’t know,” he said.

“I lied to her.” The words came out barely above a whisper. “In the dungeon. Right before she went to the wizard. She was beaten. Covered in blood. She asked if I ever loved her. And I said no. I looked her in the face and said no.”

Danny was quiet.

“It was the cruelest thing I’ve ever done,” I said. “Because I had loved her. Just not in the way I needed to. Not in the way I should have. I was too blinded by Madison. I was a fool.”

The fire crackled. Outside, wolves were laughing, setting up for the celebration.

“You need to let it go,” Danny said finally. “She’s gone, Silas. Come on. Let’s go down to the celebration. It will take your mind off things.”

I knew there was no point in arguing. So I followed Danny down to the pack grounds.

The celebration was in full swing by the time we got there.

I sat at the head table. Alone, with no one by my side. No Madison. No Bella. Just me. The failed Alpha.

I put on my face. The Alpha face. I greeted pack members as they approached. I clasped their hands and shook them.

And I drank.

An hour into the banquet though, Danny leaned over and murmured:

“Something’s off outside. The patrols are reporting unusual activity at the southern gate.”

“Crescent Blood Moon Pack?” I asked.

“I don’t think so. But…”

He was interrupted by the main doors. They burst open. Not gently. They flew inward with a such a force that chandeliers rattled.

The hall fell silent. Hundreds of wolves turned their heads toward the doors.

A woman stood in the doorway.

She was radiant.

And on her arm was a large, masculine man with dark hair and amber eyes.

My breath hitched. I locked eyes with her.

“Bella,” I whispered.
