My Rich Boyfriend Wanted Me to Spend More, So I Asked for an Electric Bike Chapter 12

When Adrian returned to the room, I was watching him without blinking.

He paused, then sat beside my bed and lowered his voice.

“You heard all of that?”

I nodded slowly. After two seconds of silence, I asked, “So… she really isn’t your fiancée?”

He nodded at once, looking almost aggrieved.

“She isn’t, baby. Believe me. You’re the only woman I love.”

I lowered my eyes and stayed silent for a few seconds.

“You can’t blame me for doubting you,” I said quietly. “We come from different worlds. Someone like you having a fiancée I didn’t know about… it didn’t seem that far-fetched.”

Adrian sighed and gave my earlobe a gentle tug.

“So you just let them treat you like that?”

I bit my lip and looked at the bandages around my arm.

“If she really had been your fiancée, then what you and I had would have been wrong. I thought giving back what you’d bought me was the right thing to do.”

“I just didn’t expect her to keep coming after me or turn up at my new job and do all this.”

He lowered his gaze. When he spoke again, his voice was rough.

“This is my fault. I should’ve dealt with this sooner. I should’ve gotten back in time to stop it. You never should’ve been hurt.”

“I promise nothing like this will ever happen again.”

I looked at him, but an emptiness still lingered inside me. None of it felt entirely real.

There were things I wanted to ask, but I wasn’t sure he’d tell me the truth.

So I only sighed, closed my eyes, and let exhaustion pull me into a deep sleep.

It was dark outside when I woke again. I instinctively looked beside the bed, but Adrian wasn’t there.

My heart sank. Then I turned and saw him standing by the window, speaking quietly on the phone.

His voice was low and cold.

“Tell the Sinclairs I won’t see any of them. And they need to stay away from the hospital. If they come here and bother Chloe, I’ll make them regret it.”

“Yes. My mind’s made up. They hurt my girl, and they’re going to pay for it.”

It sounded as though the Sinclairs had already started pleading with him.

Adrian ended the call and turned to find me awake.

The darkness in his expression disappeared at once. He smiled at me gently.

“You’re awake, baby. Does it hurt? Are you in pain?”

I shook my head, my voice still raspy.

“Are you really going to destroy them?”

He paused, then approached the bed more cautiously, studying my face.

“Why, baby? Do you feel sorry for them?”
