My Rich Boyfriend Wanted Me to Spend More, So I Asked for an Electric Bike Chapter 10

The moment we reached the hospital, Adrian carried me out of the car and ran straight into the

emergency room.

By then, my sleeve had stuck to the burn. The doctor had barely begun easing it away when I cried out. Tears streamed down my face, and I couldn’t make them stop.

Adrian’s eyes reddened. He kept trying to soothe me, then turned to the doctor.

“Please, can’t you numb her arm first? Look at her. She can’t take this.”

The doctor stopped and looked at me. “Can you tolerate the pain?”

I bit my lip and shook my head.

The doctor immediately asked a nurse to bring a local anesthetic.

Adrian finally let out a breath.

His voice was hoarse, but he never stopped comforting me. One hand covered my eyes as he murmured, “It’s almost over. Hold on a little longer, baby.”

“Don’t be afraid. I’m right here. No one will ever hurt you again.”

At last, the doctor freed the fabric from my skin, treated the burn, and bandaged my arm. I was moved to a private room, with Adrian beside me the whole way.

He stayed tense the entire time. The nurse noticed and smiled at me as she checked my IV.

“Your boyfriend loves you very much. Anyone would think he was the one who got burned. He looks more frightened than you do.”

Heat crept into my ears.

“Of course I am,” Adrian said without a trace of embarrassment. “Seeing her hurt is worse than getting hurt myself.”

I shot him a look, hoping he’d take the hint and stop talking.

The nurse laughed, adjusted my IV, and left us alone.

We had looked at each other for less than half a minute when someone knocked again.

Adrian suppressed his irritation and stroked my hair.

“Rest here. I’ll see who it is and come right back.”

Vanessa stood in the doorway, her hand wrapped in gauze and her friends crowded behind her. She held a bouquet in the crook of her other arm and gave Adrian an ingratiating smile.

“I came to see Chloe and apologize.”

Adrian looked down at her and gave a derisive snort.

“You’ve changed your tune, Ms. Sinclair. But an apology changes nothing.”

Vanessa stiffened. “Adrian, please don’t be like this. I came back because of you.”

Her voice took on a pleading note.

“I never got over you. I’ve regretted leaving for years. When my parents told me our families were arranging a marriage, I gave up everything overseas and came home. For you.”

“Stop punishing me. We’ve got our whole lives ahead of us-”

Adrian let out a disbelieving laugh.

“An arranged marriage? You’ve got the wrong Hale, Vanessa. They’re talking about a distant cousin

of mine. Not me.”

Vanessa swayed. “That’s impossible. My parents said it was you.”

She raised her bandaged hand to show the braided leather bracelet around her wrist.

“And you have been waiting for me. You’re still wearing the bracelet that matches mine”

Adrian paused, then lifted his own wrist and laughed.

“Get your eyes checked. I threw that one out years ago. Chloe gave me this.”

He lowered his hand.

“If I’d known you were this delusional, Vanessa, I’d never have gone near you.”
