The Family Photo That Had Four People And No Me Chapter 07

Just as I was about to say no, I heard Mom speak up. “What’s there to check?”

“With those grades, college is a waste of money. Wren, Mom already found you a job. It’s near home.”

“You’ll live at home from now on.’

Mom reached for my hand. I shook it off coldly.

I knew she wasn’t worried about me.

She just wanted a free nanny.

A free tutor for Lily.

And when I started working, I could help with the bills.

The teacher knew Mom and Dad didn’t care about me. She didn’t want to say anything to them.

She just took my hand and said she would take me to check my scores.

Mom was still yelling behind me. “Wren, don’t be ungrateful. I pulled strings to get you that job. Do you know how hard it is to find work?”

I walked further and further away.

The wind blew Mom’s words away. I couldn’t hear them.

In the teacher’s office, the vice principal and principal were there.

I entered my student ID number and password.

I waited nervously.

When I saw the score was blocked, the teacher was more excited than me.

“Wren, good job.”

“Have you decided between Harvard and Yale?”

Mom went home and threw away the slippers she bought for me.

“Just looking at them makes me mad.”

“I gave her a way out and she still doesn’t appreciate it.”

Dad sat on the couch and said coldly, “See. She wasn’t raised by us. She has no feelings for us.”

They sat there and listed my flaws.

Mom said, “She always has a sour face. She’s moody. She doesn’t talk.”

I loved to talk.

But Mom yelled at me and asked if I couldn’t see she was busy.

Her busy was watching short videos.

Dad said, “She’s always angry. An ungrateful brat. Can’t take criticism.”

Because they never talked to me properly.

I picked up a piece of meat. Dad hit my hand with his chopsticks.

“There’s only a few pieces left. If you eat them, what do we eat?”

“I didn’t eat any.”

“You’re lying again. There are so many bones next to you. You still say you didn’t eat?”

I glanced at Lily who was smirking. I said helplessly, “Dad, that was Lily.”

Before I finished, Dad hit me with his chopsticks again. “You’re still blaming your sister.”

Dad finished. Mom continued. “And her grades are bad.”

“Last time I went to a parent teacher conference, she almost embarrassed me to death.”

“Good thing I looked at the grades and left.”

Hearing that, Dad asked, “Did you go to the later conferences?”

“Why would I? To be embarrassed?”

“It’s better if Wren doesn’t come back. If she comes back, we have to support her. She’s an

eyesore.”

Lily hugged Mom from behind and asked, “Wren isn’t coming back? Can I have her room for a game room?”

“No. I want it for a closet.”

Lily and Madison fought over the room’s usage, ultimately deciding to split it half and half.

They moved my desk out.

Threw away my old clothes.

When they moved the bed out, they discovered a box of academic certificates underneath.
