I Was Single Until A Restaurant Handed Me My Mother In Law’s Debt Chapter 03

The moment I finished speaking, Zoey’s expression darkened considerably. Her eyes stayed locked on me before she turned to look at my clients.

“Everyone here is Ms. Carter’s client.”

“Ms. Carter can’t even afford to pay for a meal at our restaurant anymore.”

“Are you still sure you want to keep working with her?”

Her words stunned several of the clients.

One longtime client smiled and said, “If Ms. Carter truly couldn’t afford the bill, we could pay it for her.”

“But this bill is clearly wrong.”

They had worked with me for years, and many of them knew my financial situation well.

A $30,000 bill was not beyond my means.

So naturally, they trusted me without hesitation.

Zoey looked at the clients, and a hint of surprise appeared on her face.

She had not expected my clients to refuse to be turned against me. Instead, they all remained seated quietly.

For a moment, she panicked.

“Zoey, if this is all you’ve got, you can stop now.”

I looked at Zoey and said coldly, “They’re my clients, and they trust me.”

“They won’t believe you.”

“Besides, your restaurant has security cameras.”

“I need to see the footage and confirm whether that woman actually knows me.”

“You said she came here with me many times, so you need to show proof.”

The moment I finished speaking, Zoey’s expression visibly shifted.

Looking at her, I already knew this matter was not as simple as I had thought.

After all, Zoey was the one getting nervous now.

Suddenly, Zoey’s face darkened. She stared at me and said, “Claire Carter, you must already know our restaurant’s security cameras have been down recently.”

“That’s why you’re so confident.”

“Besides, I trusted you. When your mother-in-law came in, she said you would come by and pay.”

“That’s why I let her put it on a tab.”

“And now you’re denying it?”

After saying that, Zoey immediately turned toward my clients and raised her voice. “Everyone, do you really still want to work with someone like Claire Carter?”

The clients remained silent.

Zoey’s face, however, had gone livid.

She had thought that by pressuring me this way, I would pay for the sake of my clients. She had not expected my clients to reject her tactics completely, and she certainly had not expected me to be so unwilling to give her the time of day.

At that moment, Zoey’s expression changed.

“Claire, since you refuse to pay, we have no choice.”

Zoey turned to the security guards behind her and shouted, “Pin them all down!”

“I saw them when they came in. Every single one of them is wearing a luxury watch.”

“Those watches should be enough to cover the bill.”

The moment Zoey said that, even my expression changed.

It was one thing for the clients to trust me, but if they were treated this way by restaurant staff today, how was I supposed to face them afterward?

“Don’t you dare!”

I snapped in fury. “I spend over six figures a year at this restaurant, and this is how you treat a customer like me?”

My voice was filled with anger as I shouted, “Where’s your owner? Tell him to come see me!”

I knew Zoey was only a manager. The owner of the restaurant definitely could not be Zoey.

And anyone who could afford to run a restaurant this large could not possibly be someone like her.

At that, Zoey let out a cold laugh.

“Claire, who do you think you are? Do you think our owner is someone you can meet just because you ask?”

“I’m the manager of this restaurant. If anything happens, I’ll take responsibility.”
