The Godfather’s Twenty Year Dream Was Her Chapter 05

The second he said it, he seemed afraid he’d overstepped.

In his mind, I’d only agreed to date him to spite Alistair.

He quickly looked away. “I—I was joking.”

Without hesitation, I leaned in and pecked the corner of his mouth.

Before he could react, I hurried forward a few steps. “I want pizza. Let’s go to the east cafeteria.”

Rafael stood frozen for ten full seconds. Then he sprinted after me, closing the distance in a few long strides.

“Oh, you are so dead, Sera. You don’t just kiss me and walk away. Tomorrow you’re still my girlfriend.”

Wind brushed my cheeks, and sparks lit up the boy’s eyes.

Alistair, who’d been walking ahead, turned around and caught the whole moment. His eyes darkened with jealousy.

For the next few days, whenever I wasn’t in class, I was brainstorming ways to make money.

Rebirth didn’t come with a cheat code. I barely remembered my college applications.

But I had twenty extra years of hindsight. I knew which industries would blow up.

After thinking it over, I settled on the simplest plan: stock trading.

I wasn’t sure how much profit I could make, but I knew I wouldn’t lose.

The only catch? I needed cash to start. So I set my sights on my mafia-heir boyfriend.

“Would you invest some money in me?”

“How much?”

I held up five fingers.

Rafael’s face fell. “That much?”

Disappointment washed over me.

Rafael and I were dating, but we were still high schoolers. Aside from eating together in the cafeteria, we barely had dates.

Our relationship was still pretty new. Fair enough. Asking for that kind of money was a lot.

I sighed. “Never mind. I’ll figure something else out.”

Seeing me upset, Rafael rushed to explain. “I can’t get five million right away. But I can transfer you one million first. Give me a few days, I’ll hit up my friends to get the rest.”

Wait—five million?

Was that something a high school kid was supposed to say? I only wanted five thousand!

Overjoyed, I grabbed Rafael’s hand. “You’re my financial angel!”

Of course, I didn’t take the millions in the end. I borrowed fifty thousand and wrote him a proper IOU.

Rafael came with me to the bank. He had connections everywhere.

When I told him I wanted to invest, he even hooked me up with a dedicated private wealth manager.

I felt guilty. “You know what they say—investing comes with risks. What if I lose all your money?”

“Then lose it.” He shrugged, unbothered. “It’s yours, do whatever you want with it. Besides, every investor starts by losing money before they start winning big.”

That mindset? He was born to be a tycoon.

With Rafael’s backing, I picked several stocks for long-term holds, plus a few short-term trades to cover daily expenses.

By the time we left the bank, the sun was setting.

To thank Rafael for being my angel investor, I decided to treat him to dinner at a restaurant near the school.

We’d barely sat down when a server walked over with menus. It was Alistair.
