Three Years Protecting His Secret Love… Until His Wife Finally Disappeared Chapter 07

Starting over was obviously out of the question.

I looked him over and said evenly, “You got the court papers, right?”

“I’ll go back to Northbridge, but only for the divorce case. Nothing else is on the table.”

Graham immediately panicked. He carefully pulled out a copy of the deed.

“I transferred the house back into your name. I have other properties too. Pick whichever one you want, and

it’s yours.”

“I’ve ended things with Camille completely. I made her get an abortion too.”

“Elise, your job as Director of Operations is still yours.”

I raised a brow.

“Mr. Sinclair, relationships aren’t business deals. You can’t fix everything with money and power.”

He paused, then laughed at himself.

“Elise, I was an idiot.”

“I knew you started following me after you found out I was cheating. You checked my schedule, tracked where I went, even tried to catch me at the airport before I boarded.”

“I hated it. I thought you were controlling.”

“But after a while, all that attention became proof that you loved me. It made me feel secure.”

“So I started seeing Camille more and more, but you never followed me again.”

Graham tried to smile, but it came out more painful than anything.

“Elise, I kept betraying you just to test whether you still loved me. I know that makes me an asshole.”

“But can you give me one more chance? I swear I’ll love you the way I should have from now on.”

His eyes were red by the time he finished, drawing looks from people passing by.

“Is that some cheating jerk begging her to take him back? He followed her all the way out here?”

“Look at her face. He doesn’t stand a chance.”

Graham scrubbed a hand over his face and shot them a glare before slipping back into his usual distant,

unreadable expression.

I smiled.

“Graham, I helped you build Sinclair Group into what it is. I miscarried carrying your child.”

“I didn’t keep checking your schedule because I cared that much about where you were.”

“I just couldn’t let go of everything I had poured into our marriage.”

“But none of that matters anymore. There’s no point holding on to any of it.”

“The person who believed in us more than anyone and helped you every step of the way is already dead

because of you.”

The color drained from Graham’s face.

“Elise, do you hate me?”

I nodded, then shook my head.

Hatred could run even deeper than love. Spending that much energy hating someone was still another way of wasting myself on them.

“Graham, you stopped being worth any of my feelings a long time ago.”

“But we’ve been together since we were kids. We’ve had more than twenty years together!”

“Elise, I…”

“You don’t get to talk about our past.”

My voice cut him off coldly.

“If the past meant anything to you, you wouldn’t have ignored my father when he was having a cardiac

emergency.”

“Even if you traded your life for his, it still wouldn’t take away this pain.”

Graham said nothing after that. He walked away in a daze.

Before he went back to Northbridge, he asked to see me one more time.

“Elise, is there really nothing left for us to say to each other?”

Between the climate not agreeing with him and his lung problems, Graham had lost even more weight.

Looking at him brought back a flood of memories from the past.

As a child, I was quiet and painfully shy. I never fit in at school, and almost all the other kids shut me out.

Graham was the exception.

He would come talk to me and tell me about whatever book he was reading.

He worried I might go hungry, so he would always sneak an extra lunch for me.

Back then, we really could talk about anything.

I looked away and was about to shake my head when something suddenly occurred to me.

“Graham, what was your old phone passcode?”

The one he had given me outside the operating room was Camille’s birthday.

Over the past three years, I had entered those numbers more times than I could count.

Not once had they ever unlocked his phone.

Graham stared at me for a long moment, clearly caught off guard by the question.

In the end, he said nothing.

He only left me a note.

(031226]

That had been his real passcode all along.

It was also the date we first met.
