Three Years Protecting His Secret Love… Until His Wife Finally Disappeared Chapter 05

After bringing Camille back to the house, Graham couldn’t shake his unease.

Elise’s tearful, panicked voice on the phone hadn’t sounded like an act.

“Graham, come watch a movie with me. I’ve been trying to pick one forever.”

Normally, he would have dropped everything for Camille.

But now he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong.

He pulled out his phone and unfroze every one of Elise’s accounts. Then he unblocked her and sent two

messages.

Graham: [Your cards are working again. Don’t pull a stunt like this again.]

Graham: [Have some dignity. I might still let you come to our engagement party.]

He sent the messages, but they didn’t go through.

Graham stared at his phone for a long moment.

Elise had blocked him.

But why? Just because he had frozen her accounts?

He tried calling her, intending to tell her to stop being so childish, but the call wouldn’t connect either.

An intense sense of unease settled over him.

Camille waved the divorce papers in front of him.

“Graham, your wife already signed them. Come on, you should sign too.”

“I don’t want people calling me a homewrecker. I want us to make it official already.”

Normally, Graham could never resist Camille when she got sweet and coaxing. All she had to do was soften

her voice, and he would give her anything she wanted.

But now, Graham was too distracted to pay Camille any attention.

He left the papers in her hand, shut himself in the study, and opened a folder on his computer.

It was filled with photos of Elise, taken by the people he had assigned to watch her over the past three years.

He scrolled through them frantically and realized that Elise hadn’t followed him in a long time.

She used to trail him all the way to hotels. Once, she had even waited at airport arrivals for an entire day and

night.

But in the most recent photos, Elise only went out occasionally for coffee or attended floral design classes

by herself.

Most often, she was simply out walking or exercising with her father.

Her life had become quiet and ordinary. She had stopped obsessively tracking Graham a long time ago.

It was exactly what he had wanted, yet somehow it made him panic.

Eventually, the truth hit him.

For the past three years, he had enjoyed being the center of Elise’s obsessive attention.

He craved the intensity of her love, even as he refused to give up the thrill of cheating with Camille.

Graham sat in the study until dawn, when his assistant finally knocked and came in to go over his schedule.

“Mr. Sinclair, about the engagement venue Ms. Vale toured earlier–you need to stop by today to finalize the

arrangements.”

Camille came closer, her eyes red as if she hadn’t slept either.

She tugged lightly at Graham’s sleeve and was about to start coaxing him again when he brushed her hand away and tore the divorce papers on the desk to pieces.

“I haven’t signed them. Elise and I are still legally married.”

The standoff dragged on until the house manager appeared in the doorway.

“Mr. Sinclair, this package came in this morning.”

Elise was all Graham could think about. He took the package impatiently.

No sender was listed.

He opened it and froze.

It was a death certificate for Martin Bennett, Elise’s father.

Camille was still beside him, trying to coax him into going to the engagement venue with her.

Graham shook her off, stormed out without another word, and drove straight to the hospital.

The entire way there, he kept telling himself the document had to be some sick prank, another stunt Elise

had pulled to get his attention.

Martin had to be fine.

At most, he was sick and needed treatment. It couldn’t be anything serious.

The more Graham repeated it to himself, the more he believed it.

“Excuse me. What room is Martin Bennett in?”

The nurse stared at him blankly before realization dawned.

“Are you family? He had a sudden cardiac event yesterday and didn’t receive treatment in time. His body has already been sent for cremation.”

“I’m sorry for your loss.”

All the color drained from Graham’s face.

His knees gave out, and he sank to the floor.
