Three Years Protecting His Secret Love… Until His Wife Finally Disappeared Chapter 03

His stare was hard and unforgiving, though he looked slightly worn. Under his suit jacket, the edge of his hospital gown was still visible.

To stop me from hurting Camille, he had rushed back before the anesthesia had even fully worn off.

Two years earlier, when I miscarried from overwork and ended up in the hospital, the staff had called Graham as my emergency contact.

“Rest up and get back to work as soon as you can,” he had said flatly over the phone.

He had even docked my bonus for the two days I took off to recover.

Camille’s eyes immediately filled with tears when she saw Graham.

The moment he saw her crying, Graham glanced at the broken glass on the floor. His expression turned thunderous.

Graham turned to the officers.

“Elise tried to cut my fiancée. I want to press charges.”

Before I could say a word in my defense, the officers hauled me away.

The moment I stepped outside the house, dozens of cameras and glaring video lights were shoved in my face.

“Ms. Bennett, is it true that you’ve spent the past three years following and investigating Mr. Sinclair?”

“We’re told you tried to attack his fiancée while he was in surgery. What do you have to say?”

I was jostled so badly I could barely stay on my feet, and one camera clipped my temple hard enough to draw blood.

When Graham came downstairs and saw the scene, he frowned.

For one second, I thought he might stop them.

Instead, he stepped forward and said in a low voice, “This is a private family matter. Stay out of it.”

On the surface, he was getting the reporters off my back. In reality, by refusing to deny anything, he had all but confirmed every accusation they had made.

Camille stood beside him, playing the frightened victim, but a quiet laugh slipped out before she could suppress it.

Whatever last shred of hope I had left disappeared.

At the police station, Graham looked down at me.

“Apologize to Camille.”

“What if I don’t?”

“Then I’ll press charges for trespassing,” he said coldly.

“Trespassing.”

I closed my eyes and laughed.

When we had first bought the house, Graham had been so happy that he picked me up and spun me around in the garden. He had promised it would always be my home.

So much for forever. It had lasted three years.

Graham frowned and was about to say something when Camille spoke, her eyes still red.

“Maybe we should just let it go. I was scared, but Elise was only acting out because she was jealous…”

Graham’s expression hardened at once.

“Apologize.”

When I remained silent, his voice dropped into a warning.

“If you want your father to keep getting care at the hospital.”

My mind went blank.

My father had suffered a stroke three years earlier and had been receiving care at a hospital owned by the Sinclair family ever since.

I had once thought that was love.

Turns out every kindness had a price.

I looked at Graham and suddenly lost all desire to argue.

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have gone into a house that belongs to the two of you, and I shouldn’t have bothered your fiancée. Is that enough?”

Graham only frowned harder.

After two seconds of silence, he held out a document.

“As long as you stay away from Camille, I won’t short you a cent in the divorce.”

I tightened my grip on the divorce papers as he continued.

“I’ve also put Camille in your role at the company.”

“She’s sharp. She’s settled into corporate life just fine.”

His expression softened when he spoke about her.

I paused with my pen over the page.

I had been beside Graham every step of the way, helping him build Sinclair Group into what it was.

His health was poor, so I took his place at endless client dinners, late-night networking events, and every exhausting social obligation he couldn’t handle himself.

During our busiest stretch, I barely went home for more than a month and slept on the office couch instead.

Now he had forgotten all of it.

A hard winter wind blew past, my breath clouding in the air.

Under Graham’s gaze, I signed my name.

He raised a brow at how quickly I did it.

“You don’t want to go over the settlement again?”

I smiled.

“What if the house is the one thing I want? Would you give it back to me?”

Graham was silent for a long moment.

“Anything but that.”

I opened my mouth, then stopped.

Forget it.

It was only a house. I could live without it.
