Ryan’s flattering smile remained frozen on his face. He went rigid as he stared at me, every trace of arogance gone.

Chloe turned ghostly pale. She stumbled back, her lips trembling in disbelief.

Only then did they understand that the woman they had dismissed as a hired actress really controlled the investment Ryan needed.

The balance of power changed in an instant. Ryan forced down his anger and made himself small.

He whipped around and glared at Chloe.

“This is all your fault. I put you in charge of the wedding, and you overstepped, caused a disaster, and insulted Ms. Hart. You can’t do anything right.”

He dumped every bit of blame on her, then turned to me with a pleading smile.

When I stepped back, he followed half a step before stopping himself.

“Ms. Hart, this has all been a terrible misunderstanding. My assistant acted without my permission. Please don’t withdraw the funding. My company is depending on that money. If the deal collapses, Carter Dynamics is finished.”

Then he looked toward Claire in her wedding dress, scrambling to save their relationship too.

“Claire, we can’t let one ugly scene erase three years together. Let’s put this behind us and go through with the wedding as planned, okay?”

Chloe had no intention of becoming his scapegoat.

Years of resentment burst out of her. With red-rimmed eyes, she shouted across the ballroom.

“Ryan Carter, don’t you dare put all of this on me.”

Her voice carried to every corner of the room.

“We’ve been together for years. You’re the one who cheated. You told me Claire was only useful

while

your company was struggling, and that once you didn’t need her anymore, you’d throw her

out.

“I was the one in your bed every night. Claire was the only person who didn’t know. Now that you’ve been exposed, you want to sacrifice me and walk away clean? Not a chance.”

The ballroom erupted.

Guests whispered as mocking looks turned toward Ryan.

“I almost felt sorry for him. It turns out he’s a serial cheater.”

“Claire is the one I feel sorry for. Her fiancé humiliated her and let the mistress run her life for

years.”

Ryan’s face shifted from red to white as the last of his dignity disappeared.

I watched coldly, then stepped forward.

“Hartwell Capital is formally withdrawing all funding from Carter Dynamics. Our due diligence also found that the company is deeply insolvent and has no sustainable revenue. I suggest every partner in this room review your exposure before doing any further business with Ryan Carter.”

Several of his business partners exchanged uneasy looks and began speaking in low voices.

Several said on the spot that they would review their contracts or cut ties with Carter Dynamics

entirely.

The blows came too quickly for Ryan to absorb. Panic stripped away his composure.

He grabbed Claire’s arm and tried to use their history against her.

“Claire, please. For the sake of the last three years, help me. Ask Ms. Hart not to pull the funding. I know I was wrong. I’ll treat you better from now on.

“You still love me, don’t you? Three years together couldn’t have meant nothing.”

Whatever warmth Claire had once felt for him was gone. Her eyes were empty as she slowly

removed her veil.

She threw it at his feet.

When she looked up again, there was no hesitation in her face.

“Ryan Carter, our engagement is over.”
