The Bullet Screen Says He Loves Me, But I Can’t Feel It Chapter 06

I looked at them both without expression.

We were already broken up. Why did he care whether I went back?

Besides, he’d gone to stay at Sienna’s place himself. Was he really questioning why I hadn’t been home?

Wasn’t that laughable?

[Don’t misunderstand. Gavin only got drunk last night, and Sienna brought him home to take care of him. Nothing happened between them except that kiss meant to make you jealous.]

[Sienna was dressed like that last night, and Gavin still didn’t go any further. Doesn’t that prove you’re the only one in his heart?]

[Exactly. These days, not many people can resist temptation. Only a male lead who has eyes for no one but the heroine could hold back like that!]

[He’s just too proud to explain himself. Ask him one question and he’ll tell you exactly what happened last night.]

[Didn’t you see him watching you the whole time? The more you ignore him, the worse he feels. Give him a chance to explain.]

I let out a cold laugh.

So spending the middle of the night in the same room didn’t count as crossing a line?

And who knew whether they had actually done anything?

Not that I cared.

Luckily, the elevator arrived, and I didn’t have to stay trapped with them any longer.

Ding!

I walked out immediately.

Gavin’s driver was waiting outside the building.

He looked startled when he saw me.

He hesitated, unsure whether to invite me into the car.

I only nodded and stepped aside.

Sienna got in first without the slightest hesitation.

She did it like the car belonged to her.

What surprised me was that Gavin stopped. “Get in!”

I looked at him and stepped farther aside.

Gavin gave a cold laugh. “Heh. I want to see how long you’re planning to keep this up!”

The car door slammed in front of me, and they drove away.

I sighed. Apparently, I couldn’t stay at that apartment either.

A Maybach pulled up in front of me a few minutes later.

“Did you eat breakfast?”

Adrian pressed a carton of milk and a sandwich into my hands.

I hadn’t eaten breakfast, so I didn’t refuse.

By the time the car stopped, we had reached Shaw & Sterling’s headquarters on Madison Avenue.

Adrian took me up to the fiftieth floor.

The entire floor was executive offices and conference space. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, Midtown spread out below us.

Shaw & Sterling’s leadership team was already waiting in the conference room.

Adrian pulled out a chair for me himself. Only after I sat down did he look at everyone else.

“Let me make a formal introduction.”

“As of today, Willa Hart is the managing partner of our client strategy division.”

“She’ll report directly to the board and has full authority to build her own team.”

I turned sharply toward him.

Managing partner?

None of the executives around the table looked surprised.

Clearly, they’d approved the appointment before I ever walked into the room.

After the meeting, I held it in as long as I could, then followed Adrian into his office.

“I came here to work for you. You made me a partner on day one, and now I feel a ton of pressure.”

“Besides, you don’t know the company well enough yet. Shouldn’t I start lower down and learn how things work first?”

Adrian gestured for me to sit.

“We’ve competed for years. No one understands your abilities better than I do.”

“And didn’t I tell you last year that I wanted you to come here as a partner?”

I stared at him.

I hadn’t expected that old offer from Adrian to have been real.

He seemed to notice my unease and continued.

“Willa, your abilities don’t need to be tested from scratch.”

“The Willa who could go two days without sleep just to beat me to an account? Only a partner’s authority will let you reach your full potential.”

My eyes grew hot.

He handed me a list of employees.

“Pick anyone you want from this list.”

“But three months from now, I want to see the strongest team in the company. Can you do that?”

“I can.”

I accepted without hesitation.
