After They Stole My Life, Reborn I Called Another Man Dad Chapter 13

He was quiet for two seconds.

Then he gave me a goofy little smile.

“I can learn to take pictures with my left hand.”

He paused, as if that settled everything.

“I learned how to hold you when you were a baby. How hard could this be?”

Footsteps suddenly sounded behind us.

Chloe had arrived.

She stood in the doorway, her face pale, with Eleanor and Austin behind her.

The smile immediately disappeared from Ethan’s face.

Chloe walked into the room crying.

“Dad, I swear I didn’t mean to do it. I was just angry. I wanted to burn those letters. I had no idea you

would go inside.”

She wiped her tears.

“Can you tell the police it was just an accident?”

Her voice broke.

“Dad, I’m your biological daughter. Are you really going to let the police arrest me because of her?”

I looked up sharply.

My biological mother immediately stepped in.

“Zoe, please don’t get upset. Chloe only lost control because she found out that her biological mother had already died. Then she discovered that her biological mother’s belongings had been kept by someone else all these years. She just got stuck in a really bad place emotionally.”

Austin’s expression was grim.

“She never meant to hurt anyone.”

Ethan closed his eyes.

The room fell silent.

For a long time, nobody said anything.

I barely dared to breathe.

I knew Ethan felt guilty toward Chloe.

For days, no matter what she did, he had never truly raised his voice at her or said anything harsh.

Finally, he opened his eyes.

“Chloe, the fact that I’m your father is exactly why I can’t do what you’re asking.”

His voice was tired, but firm.

“You did something wrong. Crying about it doesn’t make it disappear.”

He paused.

“If you had grown up with me, and you deliberately burned someone else’s property when you were a kid, I would have taught you that lesson then.”

Chloe’s face went white.

Ethan continued.

“You’re angry that I wasn’t there for you growing up. I accept that. I should have been there.”

His gaze hardened.

“But Zoe doesn’t owe you anything. You burned her belongings. You injured my hand. Whatever consequences come from that, you need to face them.”

Chloe suddenly screamed.

“But I’m your daughter!”

Ethan looked at her.

“So?”

Chloe stared at him.

“So what?”

“If my daughter does something wrong, am I supposed to lie for her?”

Chloe went completely still.

It was probably the first time in her life anyone had ever asked her that question.

In the Miller household, her tears had always been enough.

If she cried, that was a reason.

If she was scared, that was a reason.

If she was unhappy, everyone else was expected to back down.

But Ethan didn’t.
