Ethan didn’t leave; he waited at the entrance to the complex until Willa came home from work.

Ethan rushed right up to her. “Willa, please talk to Claire for me and convince her to come back with me!”

Willa quickly took a step back, as if she’d seen a ghost. “Ethan, aren’t you busy helping your little assistant find an apartment? How did you find the time to come here?”

“That–that was just a misunderstanding.”

“I don’t know about a misunderstanding, but I do know you’re no good.”

Ethan’s face went pale again.

He tried desperately to explain. “Nothing happened between Summer and me! I swear!”

“I sleep on the couch every night!”

Willa burst out laughing.

She leaned in close to Ethan’s ear. “Your body might be sleeping on the couch, but your heart’s in your

assistant’s bed, isn’t it?”

Ethan’s ears turned red instantly, and he stammered, “You! What are you talking about?”

Willa took a step back. “Ethan, I suggest you sign the divorce agreement right away–let’s save some dignity

for both of us.”

Willa started to walk away, but Ethan called out to her.

“Luna–we still have Luna! If we really get divorced, what will happen to her?”

Willa paused for a moment, then continued on her way.

By the time Willa pushed open the door and walked in, I had already finished making dinner.

Seeing the table full of food, Willa threw her arm around mine. “Claire, you’re amazing!”

“I used to eat takeout or hotel food every day–I was about to throw up! It’s been so long since I’ve had home–cooked meals!”

I gave her a light tap on the shoulder. “Come on, wash your hands and let’s eat.”

While we were eating, Willa suddenly said, “If you get divorced from Ethan, what will happen to Luna?”

My hand paused as I served myself. “She’ll stay with me.”
