Dead Before You Loved Me He Realized the Truth Only When My Grave Was Cold Chapter 06

Seraphina smiled. “So what if it is, Elara?”

“You… you were married to Darien. You two-”

I couldn’t believe my eyes.

Seraphina had taken Darien from me. They’d been in love. They’d had a huge, perfect wedding five years ago.

Everyone in Havenbrook had talked about how Darien Blackwood had married the woman he loved. He’d

bought her a oneofakind wedding dress in the world.

Their wedding had been like a fairy tale.

And now she stood close to Kael, the air between them thick with intimacy.

Kael’s face turned hard. “She and my brother got divorced. The day you caught us.”

I swayed. Kael’s expression shifted. He almost reached for me, but when he saw Seraphina’s angry face, he

pulled his hand back.

I held onto the wall for support. My stomach hurt terribly.

I didn’t care about the brothers’ mess anymore.

I turned to Seraphina.

I held out my hand. “Give them to me.”

I hadn’t been sure. But now that I saw her, I knew.

She’d done it on purpose.

Thrown my things out. Stolen the one thing that mattered to me.

“You mean these?”

She smiled and pulled back her hair, showing the vintage silver filigree earrings on her ears.

“I don’t care about any of the fancy stuff Kael gave you. But these suit me.”

She twisted the dangling silver pieces deliberately.

“You’re not being petty, are you, Elara?”

Kael looked at me. “Seraphina likes them. Just let it go. I’ll buy you better ones.”

Tears burned my eyes. “Kael, they were my mom’s.”

Kael fell quiet, embarrassed.

I stepped forward. “Give them back. Now.”

“Fine. They’re just old silver. I wouldn’t wear them if they weren’t pretty.”

Seraphina ripped them off angrily and threw them on the floor.

I fell to my knees to pick them up. One of the silver pieces was broken.

Seraphina stared at me, smiling triumphantly.

She was provoking me.

Why? I’d already backed down. Why couldn’t she leave me alone?

Anger roared in my chest and made me dizzy.

I lunged forward and slapped her hard across the face.

My own cheek stung instantly. Kael had hit me back.

Blood trickled from the corner of my mouth.

Kael didn’t even glance at me. He held Seraphina gently, checking her for injuries.

Then he turned to me, cold and furious.

He looked at me like I was some pathetic toy he’d grown tired of.

Kael’s perfect lips curled into a cruel smile.

“Elara, I wasn’t going to tell you. I knew I owed you. But you shouldn’t have hit her.”

I’d never seen this side of him. He’d always been playful, careless, easygoing.

When he was serious, he was just like Darien.

Cold. Arrogant. Unfeeling.

He looked down at me.

My heart sank.

I didn’t want to hear any more.

I knew the truth would destroy what was left of me.

I was dying. Let me live in the lie a little longer. Don’t wake me up.

I stepped back, turned to run, but Kael grabbed my wrist hard.
