My Comatose Wife Woke Up Pregnant Chapter 01

My Comatose Wife Woke Up Pregnant Chapter 01 The Baby Was His
For three years, I had cared for my wife while she lay in a coma. Then one day, she climbed out of bed with a swollen belly.
“The baby is Mason’s. Two years ago, on my birthday, you asked him to handle the decorations. He came on to me, and I was bored out of my mind, so we slept together.
“I was going to hide it a little longer, but I’m twelve weeks along. I need to start walking around more—for the baby.”
My mind emptied. Ice seemed to flood my veins.
Vivian Monroe wrapped her arms around me and spoke as gently as if she were comforting me.
“Julian, please don’t be upset. It was an accident. Besides, pretending to be comatose was how we repaid what we owed Mason.
“Five years ago, you stole his technology to build your company. We made a fortune off it for two years. I stayed in bed to hold you back while Mason reclaimed the market we took from him. Now the debt is finally paid.”
When I said nothing, she told me to stay home and take some time to process it.
Then she video-called Mason Cole.
“Mason, I told Julian. You can come to the prenatal appointment with me now.”
His crooked grin filled her screen.
“Good.
“And don’t forget our wedding in two days.”
I stared at the two of them.
What a coincidence.
In two days, I was also due to return to Crestmont and reclaim my place in the Prescott family.
Vivian kept chatting with Mason as though I weren’t there.
Every now and then, he called her babe. She would glance at me, then go right back to flirting with him.
I stood frozen while the chaos in my head sharpened into perfect clarity.
Vivian and I used to sit next to each other in class back in high school. We later attended Riverton University together and began dating in our sophomore year.
Three years ago, not long after our wedding, Vivian was involved in a terrible car accident and supposedly fell into a coma.
I scaled back my company and devoted every waking hour to her care.
And Mason?
We were roommates in college—closer to me than a brother.
As far as I knew, he and Vivian could barely stand each other. Every meeting ended in an argument.
At our wedding, Mason had stood beside me in his best-man tux and complained with a scowl,
“I’ll never understand what you see in her—she’s terrifying. She’s going to make your life hell.”
Vivian had lunged at him with her nails out.
Never once had I imagined they would spend the next two years sneaking around behind my back.
Vivian finally ended the call and went into the dressing room to change.
Her approving voice drifted through the door.
“I have to admit, you’ve always been more thoughtful than Mason. Even when you thought I couldn’t wake up, you kept buying me new clothes so I’d have something to wear.
“That jerk couldn’t even be bothered to use protection. You think he cared what I wore?”
I followed her, my voice shaking.
“I never stole Mason’s technology. I told you that over and over. Why didn’t you believe me? Why did you fake a coma for him?
“If this started two years ago, why didn’t you tell me then? Why let me throw away two years of my life?”
Her hands paused halfway through pulling on a dress.
Irritation crossed her face.
“This again? Mason already said he wouldn’t pursue the theft. He could have reported you and had you arrested, but he didn’t. What right do you have to act wronged?
“Sleeping with him was just a little fun. The pregnancy was an accident. Once the baby is born, Mason can take him. You won’t have to lift a finger. Is that good enough for you?”
To her, faking a coma for three years and getting pregnant by my best friend barely counted as a problem.
The pain in my chest made it hard to breathe.
I forced out one final question.
“What wedding were you talking about?”
Vivian’s lips curved with anticipation.
“It’s for the baby. I don’t want him growing up and learning his parents never had a proper wedding.
“You don’t mind, do you? Don’t worry. Mason and I will only have the ceremony. When it comes to the wedding night, you can still be the man in my bed.”
Nausea rolled through me.
I was about to tell her we were over when the electronic lock beeped.
Mason strode inside, polished and perfectly dressed.
I had been fighting to contain myself. The moment that bastard walked within reach, my restraint snapped, and my fist slammed into his face.
“Mason! I treated you like my brother, and you slept with my wife?
“You’re an animal!”
He wiped the blood from beneath his nose and twisted his mouth into a pained smile.
“Julian, hit me as much as you need to. Even if you kill me today, I won’t hold it against you.”
After watching him flirt with Vivian on the call, his performance only made him seem more revolting.
I drew back my fist again. Something sharp suddenly drove into my back.
I turned stiffly.
Vivian stood behind me, clutching the high heel I had bought her.
Her voice held no warmth.
“Julian, you look pathetic when you lose control. It’s been three years. How are you still this immature?”
Three years. Yes.
For three years, I had believed I loved this woman more than anything.
But now I saw how easily she could lie to me, betray me, and attack me for Mason.
Just like that, whatever love I had left died.
Vivian linked her arm through Mason’s, and the two of them walked out without looking back.
I made a call.
“Grandpa, that woman won’t be joining me in Crestmont. She isn’t fit to be your granddaughter-in-law.”
