I Signed Away My First Love, Then Married Someone Else Chapter 05

The memory let me go.

My face had gone numb. “I signed the agreement. I won’t make a scene.”

I pulled out my phone and texted Lauren. “I’m heading home.”

Before I could put it away, a missed call appeared on the screen.

The contact name read: “My Husband.”

Grant caught a glimpse of it and froze.

“You still have Ethan saved as your husband?”

Then the impossibility of that hit him.

Ethan was standing right here. Why would he be calling me?

His head snapped up. “Who is that?”

I ignored him.

I raised the phone to call back.

A hand reached over my shoulder and snatched it away.

I turned.

Ethan stood half a step behind me.

He looked down at the screen.

The words glowed on the screen for everyone to see.

“My Husband.”

A soft laugh escaped him.

The faint curve of his mouth was openly mocking.

“Claire, what are you trying now?”

He held up my phone and waved it in front of me.

“You’ve spent three months throwing a fit. Now you show up after renaming some random number ‘My Husband’ and wait for me to notice?”

Someone nearby joined in the laughter.

“She always finds a new angle. You have to give her that.”

“Didn’t she hire someone to pose as her boyfriend on Instagram last time?”

“Guess she upgraded. Now she’s giving random contacts fake names.”

“Give it back.” I reached for the phone.

He pulled back. My fingers closed on air, and I pitched forward.

He caught me on instinct, and I fell against his chest.

He went rigid. Then, before he seemed to realize what he was doing, his arm tightened around me and his breath brushed my ear.

“Careful.”

I pushed at him, but he didn’t move.

He handed my phone to someone beside him.

His palm remained pressed against the small of my back.

The gesture was so intimate that even he didn’t seem to realize how wrong it was here.

“I told you we’d sort us out after the wedding. You couldn’t wait a few more days?”

“You shouldn’t have come tonight.”

Then someone nearby called out.

“Look, the call’s still live. Put it on speaker. Let’s hear who she hired this time.”

The person holding my phone swiped without hesitation.

They turned on the speaker.

The voice on the other end suddenly filled the room.

It was a man’s voice, low, calm, and unhurried.

“Honey? Where are you?”
