He Loved Me in Secret, Until I Became Someone He Could Never Have Chapter 07

The whole room went still.

Alessio shot to his feet. “Vivienne!”

He crossed the room fast. His first instinct wasn’t belief. It was to pull me back and step between me

and Valerio.

“Mr. Moretti. My apologies. She’s a former employee. She’s been going through some personal

issues lately. Please don’t take anything she just said seriously.”

He spoke quickly, even extended his hand. Valerio didn’t take it. His gaze dropped to where Alessio had grabbed my wrist. Then he looked up, expression still calm.

“Mr. Rinaldi. I think you’re mistaken about something.”

Alessio’s smile froze. Valerio took my hand again. “I’m not here for your project. I’m here to take

my fiancée home.”

Alessio stood there. For the first time, something genuinely blank crossed his face. Shock.

Disbelief. Anger. Then nothing.

He stared at Valerio’s hand wrapped around mine. “What did you just say?”

Valerio nodded politely. “Vivienne’s told me a lot about you. She says you’re a good boss.”

A good boss. It sounded like an insult. Alessio’s expression shifted slowly.

He knew he wasn’t.

For the sake of avoiding suspicion, he’d denied my competence in public.

Blocked my promotions. Handed my work to Camilla.

And when I was framed, he’d let me take the fall. Even knowing I was the closest person to him.

Camilla finally caught up. “Vivienne, when did you meet Mr. Moretti? How come we’ve never heard

about this?”

I glanced at her. “Why would my personal life be any of your business?”

Her smile cracked.

Alessio finally spoke. “Vivienne. We need to talk. Alone.”

I looked at him. “Mr. Rinaldi. I don’t work for you anymore. Whatever was between us is over.

There’s nothing left to talk about.”

His jaw tightened. “You know exactly what we are to each other. We’ve known each other since we were twelve. Twenty years. You don’t even know Moretti.”

He paused. His voice dropped, quieter than before. “Don’t do this just because you’re angry.”

Dominic couldn’t stay silent either. “Vivienne, what happened these last few days?”

“Nothing,” I answered. “I went home. And met someone my parents had set up for me.”

I glanced at Valerio. He didn’t interrupt. Just squeezed my hand lightly.

I smiled. “It went well.”
