The second the words left my mouth, Kael’s Regret Meter exploded.

After two months stuck at 60%, It jumped to 85% in an instant.

I thought it would hit 100%. It stopped at 90%.

I cursed under my breath.

“Your own mother is dead, and you only regret this much?”

The System said nothing.

Kael’s hands wrapped around my throat.

“You’re lying.”

“I’m not lying,” I forced out two tears.

“The one in the car accident was your mother. I called you so many times. I begged for money. You refused. The hospital didn’t treat her.”

“She was left in the hallway, ignored. That’s why she died.”

“No… impossible.”

Kael staggered back, shaking his head in disbelief.

Lila stepped forward to support him.

“It’s a lie!” she screamed, pointing at me.

“Kael, don’t believe this crazy woman! It was her mother who died! She’s making this up to guilt you!”

“I can lie,” I said, pulling a paper from my bag and throwing it at them. “But an official death certificate doesn’t lie.”

“Kael, your mother is still at the crematory. If you have any humanity left, you’ll go handle her funeral.”

Lila’s face went pale at the sight of the document.

“That’s impossible… I specifically—”

She didn’t finish. Kael stumbled past her and ran out.

Half an hour later, Kael arrived at the crematory.

He saw the body in the cold casket and collapsed to his knees.

“Mom… how could this happen? Why did it have to be you?”

He suddenly turned to Lila, eyes murderous.

“You! You killed her! You refused to pay the hospital bill! Lila Thorne, you will die for

In two sentences, she blamed everything on me.

Kael spun toward me.

“Elara… did you plan all this?

Why did my mother get into a car accident?

Why did the hospital call you first, not me?”

I stared at his Regret Meter, spiking but stuck at 90%.

Then I smiled.

“Kael, you think your mother’s death was an accident?”

My voice was as cold as ice.

“You’re right. It wasn’t. But I didn’t kill her.”

Kael’s eyes burned red.

“Who did?”

I pointed straight at Lila.

“She did. Lila Thorne is the one who murdered your mother.’

Lila’s face twisted. “You’re lying!”

“Am I?” I pulled out my phone. “I have proof.”

Before Lila could move, I pressed play.

Kael’s mother had been hit by a truck on the way to the Voss Estate.

The driver surrendered as soon as police arrived.

He claimed he’d been drinking and lost control. It was an accident.

He was already in jail.

But the audio playing from my phone was a recording of Lila and the driver.

The man’s voice trembled with fear.

“Lila, are you sure about this? It’s against the law!”

“No risk, no reward,” Lila’s voice was icecold.

“Don’t worry, Uncle. We just hit a car. No one has to die. And even if someone does, the Voss money

will cover it.”

“I’ll pay you five million dollars after you serve a few years. You’ll live like a king.”

“Once I drive Elara out, I’ll be Mrs. Voss. I’ll get you out of prison in no time.”

The recording ended. Kael’s face was like stone.

Lila screamed and lunged for my phone.

“It’s fake! Kael, don’t believe her! I never said that! Elara, you’re evil!”

I stepped back. Lila stumbled and fell to the floor.

I smiled. “Don’t worry. There’s more.”

I played a second recording: a call between Lila and a hospital doctor.

“Yes. Don’t treat her. Just leave the old woman in the hallway. Let her die.”

The doctor asked what if Mr. Voss found out.

“This is Mr. Voss’s wish,” Lila’s voice was chilling.

“He’s wanted to get rid of that woman for ages. She deserves to die.”

I put my phone away and looked at Kael.

“Kael, Lila has done so many terrible things in your name. Are you still going to protect her?”

Kael looked up, his eyes full of rage.

He walked slowly toward Lila, his voice icy.

“Lila, the Voss family treated you like family. My mother loved you like her own daughter.Why did you kill her?”
