They Tried To Punish My Daughter, Unaware We Were Vampires Chapter 05

Silas stood frozen, his hand still locked around the dagger’s hilt.

“What… what are you saying?”

I gripped the shard lodged in my shoulder and slowly pulled it free under Silas’s terrified gaze.

The muscle around the wound writhed like something alive, then began knitting itself back together. Within seconds, the bone–deep wound had healed without leaving so much as a scar.

Silas’s legs gave out beneath him. He dropped to the floor and scrambled backward until his back

struck a freezer.

“Demon… You’re a demon!”

He fumbled his phone from his pocket. His fingers shook so badly that it took him several tries to

unlock it.

The moment 911 appeared on the screen, my pale hand closed around the phone. With a light squeeze, I crushed it to powder. The remains sifted through my fingers.

“After ten years, did you really think I hadn’t noticed what you were doing behind my back?”

Silas’s hand remained suspended in the air. He couldn’t force out a single word.

Rowan had seen everything from the doorway. Unlike Silas, he didn’t collapse. The training I had

given him took over.

He grabbed the solid steel bar used to pry open the freezers and charged at me.

“Enough with the freak show. I’ll cave your skull in!”

The bar whistled toward the top of my head. I didn’t move aside.

I raised one hand.

The bar struck the back of my hand with a deafening clang and bent at a right angle. My skin remained completely unmarked.

The recoil tore open the webbing between Rowan’s thumb and forefinger, sending the bar clattering from his hand.

He stared at me in horror.

Rowan bolted for the door, screaming, “Monster! You’re insane!”

By the time Rowan reached the heavy soundproof door, it was already sealed. I leaned beside it with

Ivy in my arms.

Rowan pounded frantically on the steel door.

Why are you running?”

I watched him calmly.

“You ran faster ten years ago, when I pulled you out of that pile of bodies.”

Rowan stopped pounding on the door. He turned and sank against it, shaking uncontrollably.

I slowly straightened and laid Ivy on a nearby examination table. The temperature in the basement plunged, and the green emergency lights began to strobe.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. The long–forgotten relief of releasing my true nature

washed over me.

When I opened my eyes, they had turned pure crimson. Two sharp fangs slowly extended past my

lips.

A crushing pressure rolled off me, almost solid as it bore down on all three of them. Silas and Rowan were forced flat against the floor, unable even to raise their heads.

Rosie collapsed in the corner and wet herself.

She pointed at me, her voice rising into a terrified shriek.

“You’re a monster! You’re a vampire!”
