The butler acknowledged Julian’s order and left.

Once the door closed, the room fell quiet again.

Julian’s profile was still hard with anger.

I reached up and touched his cheek.

“Don’t be angry anymore, It’s bad for your health.”

He caught my hand and pressed a soft kiss to the back of it.

Some of the chill in his eyes faded.

“All right. I’ll listen to you.”

A little later, the oatmeal was brought upstairs, still steaming.

Julian sat on the edge of the bed and fed me one careful spoonful after another.

Watching his focused expression reminded me of what I had asked him the day before.

“So you really meant it? You won’t just have those men thrown to the fish?”

A faint smile appeared in his eyes.

“Whatever you want is what we’ll do. Compared with what happens to them, what you want matters far

more to me.”

I lightly caught the spoon between my teeth.

Warmth spread through my chest.

Until then, I had thought being cherished this way was something only my parents could give me.

Now I finally understood what it felt like to be held at the center of someone else’s heart.

Julian had sent our twins to stay with my parents while I recovered.

He was taking care of me himself, and having the children here at the same time would have made things harder.

The days passed.

My body slowly regained its strength, and healthy color returned to my face.

Julian continued staying close every day.

Even when he worked, he handled most things from the study because he was afraid something might happen while he was too far away to help.

One afternoon, I sat in a wicker chair in the courtyard, letting the sun warm me.

n brought out another chair and sat beside me with a file.

He kept reading, but every few moments he looked up at me as though seeing me safe was the only thing –

that let him relax.

I laughed.

“Julian, if you keep staring at me, you’re going to burn a hole through those papers.”

He set the file aside, came over, and crouched in front of me.

Taking my hand, he pressed a kiss to it.

“Looking at you matters more.”

My heart gave a small jump.

I traced my fingers gently over his brows.

“I’m fine now. You don’t have to spend every minute circling around me. If you have work, go take care of it.”

Julian shook his head and rested his forehead against my knees.

“I used to think work came first. Now I know nothing matters more than knowing you’re safe and well.”

At that moment, the butler approached with a plate of sliced fruit.

He set it on the small table beside us and lowered his voice.

“Sir, we’ve located Serena Blake. Our people have already captured her and are holding her.”

Julian’s entire body went rigid.

When he raised his head, all the warmth in his eyes had disappeared.

Only cold fury remained.

He stood.

“Understood. Send everything they’ve found to my study.”

I watched him walk away.

I knew those people would face the consequences they deserved.

I did not ask for details. Some things, I trusted Julian to handle.

By the time he returned from the study, evening had fallen.

He came straight to me, pulled me into his arms, and rested his chin on my hair.

“It’s done. No one will come back to bother you again.”

I wrapped my arms around his waist.

“Julian, thank you.”

He rubbed my hair.

“Silly girl. You don’t need to thank me. Not between us.”

After dinner, he walked with me through the courtyard.

The evening breeze carried the scent of flowers and grass.

I leaned against his arm.

After everything ugly I had survived, the quiet life in front of me felt more precious than ever.

I looked up at him.

“Can we keep living like this from now on?”

Julian lowered his head and kissed my forehead.

His answer was gentle and certain.

“Yes. Whatever you want.”
