My Unfaithful Ex Accused Me of Cheating Chapter 04

My Unfaithful Ex Accused Me of Cheating Chapter 04 He Came for Me

instant Julian’s order rang through the alley, a coat carrying his familiar scent settled gently over my shoulders.

His deep, steady voice followed beside my ear.

“Maya, it’s over. You’re safe now. Don’t be afraid.”

Before he finished speaking, he bent down and lifted me into his arms.

Pressed against his chest, I finally felt the panic inside me ease a little.

I looked up at the sharp line of his jaw and spoke softly.

“Julian… could you not have them thrown into the water for the fish?”

He visibly paused, clearly not expecting that request.

I hurried to explain.

“Don’t worry. I never planned to forgive them. I just think dying that quickly would be far too easy.”

Julian lowered his gaze to me, tenderness replacing the murderous coldness in his eyes.

“All right. We’ll do it your way. But punishment can wait until you’ve recovered.”

I nodded and let him carry me home.

The moment we arrived, Julian sent for a doctor and had me examined carefully.

When the examination was over, the doctor turned to him.

“Mr. Cross, fortunately, your wife did not contract AIDS. She did suffer a miscarriage, and she’s still emotionally unstable. She’ll need careful support and reassurance while she recovers.”

Julian nodded and asked the butler to escort the doctor out.

Only after the heavy front door closed again did I notice his rigid shoulders finally loosen a little, as if he had been holding that tension in his body the entire time.

I reached for his sleeve and tugged gently.

“I’m okay. You don’t have to worry this much. Even if something had happened, you still got there in time, didn’t you?”

As I spoke, I tried to smooth the crease between his brows.

Julian caught my hand and carefully folded my fingertips into his warm palm.

Heat seeped through my skin, making the back of my nose sting.

I turned away before he could see my reddened eyes.

He gently caught my chin and turned me back.

Hivoice was low and rough, carrying a vulnerability I had never heard from him before.

“Maya, you don’t have to force yourself to be strong.”

I looked at the red veins in his eyes and remembered how travel–worn he had looked when he reached me.

He must have started rushing back the moment he learned I was in danger.

My heart softened.

I wrapped both arms around his neck and buried my face against him.

“I knew you’d protect me.”

His arms tightened around me as if he wanted to hold me inside his bones.

“Always.”

I slept badly that night.

Again and again, I woke halfway from nightmares.

Every time I opened my eyes, Julian was still sitting in the chair beside the bed, watching me without blinking.

Whenever he saw I was awake, he leaned over, tucked the blanket around me, and asked softly, “Another nightmare?”

I would nod.

Then he patted my back in a slow, gentle rhythm, soothing me like a child until I fell asleep again.

By morning, sunlight was slipping through the curtains and falling across Julian’s sleeping face.

He had clearly stayed beside me all night. The shadows beneath his eyes were even darker.

I moved quietly, intending to cover him with a light blanket.

My hand had barely moved when he woke and caught my wrist.

His voice was rough with sleep.

“You’re awake. Hungry? There’s oatmeal simmering in the kitchen.”

The concern in his eyes made me smile.

“Julian, you’re treating me like I’m made of porcelain.”

He lowered his gaze, his thumb brushing slowly over the back of my hand.

“You deserve to be protected that carefully.”

A knock interrupted us.

The butler entered.

“Sir, those men have been dealt with according to Mrs. Cross’s wishes. We also discovered that Serena Blake has disappeared.”

All the warmth vanished from Julian’s expression.

His eyes turned cold.

“Keep searching. Dig through everything until there’s nothing left hidden.”
