The Girl Who Was His Replacement for Nine Years Finally Left Him Chapter 04

The Girl Who Was His Replacement for Nine Years Finally Left Him Chapter 04

After checking my luggage into a hotel, I decided to go out and buy a few things.

The moment I stepped outside the hotel, someone grabbed me from behind, clamped a hand over my mouth, and dragged me into an alley without surveillance cameras.

When I opened my eyes again, I was bound tightly with rough rope and suspended from the steel framework of an abandoned crane at a deserted pier.

Hundreds of feet below me, the freezing ocean churned violently beneath the platform.

Chloe stood beside the leader of the kidnappers.

“What the hell do you want, Chloe?”

I kept my back rigid and glared at her coldly.

Chloe stepped forward and slapped me hard across the face.

“Matteo is sick of you, and you still refuse to leave! You won’t go, huh? Fine. Then you’ll spend today at the bottom of the ocean feeding the sharks!”

My heart sank.

My voice tightened.

“Chloe, Matteo and I are legally married. If I disappear, he’ll investigate until he finds out what happened. Once he discovers you were behind this, do you really think he’ll keep you around?”

Chloe suddenly laughed.

Then she nodded at the kidnappers and had them tie her up as well, suspending her from the steel framework beside me.

“Then let’s see who Matteo chooses.”

I pressed my lips together and said nothing.

It wasn’t long before Matteo appeared, carrying a black briefcase as he made his way up the hill.

Chloe’s eyes immediately filled with tears.

She cried out before I could say a word.

“Matteo! Save me! Blair’s gone crazy! She arranged this whole kidnapping! I’m so scared!”

I hurriedly shouted back, my throat raw from the freezing sea wind.

“That’s not true! Chloe is the one behind this! Matteo, you have to believe me!”

The usual lazy amusement was gone from Matteo’s face.

A deadly chill surrounded him.

“Blair, I warned you not to pull any more stunts. Why won’t you ever listen? First you leaked Chloe’s private photos. Now you want to throw her off a cliff?”

My face went white.

I shook my head frantically, but no matter how desperately I tried to explain, he refused to hear a single word.

The kidnapper’s leader grinned greedily.

“Don Matteo, you get one choice! Your legally wedded wife or the woman you love most…”

Matteo cut him off coldly.

He casually tossed the briefcase forward.

“No need for the speech. I choose Chloe. There’s seventy million dollars in the case. Count it yourself.”

The kidnapper froze.

Then he threw his head back and laughed.

“Good! Good! Untie Miss Rossi!”

I forced a bitter smile.

Matteo had never believed me.

The moment Chloe was untied, she stumbled straight into Matteo’s arms.

“Matteo…” she whispered against his chest. “What about Blair?”

“Don’t save her.”

His voice was cold.

“Let her die.”

Those words shattered the last bit of hope I had been clinging to.

A knife sliced through the rope binding me.

I instantly lost my footing.

I plummeted straight into the freezing ocean.

When I opened my eyes again, I was staring at the stark white ceiling of a hospital room.

“You’re awake?”

Matteo’s face was full of mockery, his eyes ice-cold.

“Blair, I really think you need to learn your lesson. Was staging that whole fall into the ocean worth it?”

I lowered my eyes.

“I fell into the ocean, and you still don’t believe me?”

Matteo laughed.

He slapped my cheek lightly in deliberate humiliation before throwing his phone onto the bed in front of me.

“Who else could it be? Your little accomplices. They had a rescue boat and search divers waiting in the water. They were just waiting for you to jump.”

He sneered.

“So how many people are splitting that seventy million? You getting the biggest cut?”

On the screen was footage of several kidnappers bending over my unconscious body and covering me with a blanket.

The angle made it look exactly like they were rescuing one of their own.

“It wasn’t me… I didn’t know…” I managed to whisper.

“Enough!”

Matteo snapped, his irritation boiling over.

“God, you’re exhausting. Are you done with the act yet? The evidence is right in your face, and you’re still trying to deny it!”

I closed my eyes.

I didn’t say another word.

Matteo walked to the window and lit another cigar with his back turned to me.

His voice was completely matter-of-fact.

“After we return to the estate for the family dinner, Chloe and I are getting married. After the wedding, I’ll send her overseas. You won’t have to see each other anymore, and you won’t have any reason to keep targeting her.”

I was exhausted in every possible way.

I didn’t have the strength to keep explaining myself.

“If you love her so much, why don’t you just divorce me?”
