They Swapped Brides At The Wedding, I Swapped Grooms Chapter 02

The moment I stepped out, my foot throbbed and I nearly stumbled.

The wedding shoes were size 5.

But I wear a size 7.

Rowan had had the original pair custom-made to my taste.

He spent a whole year on them, then gave them to Lorinda the second she said she liked them.

What he left me was these illfitting shoes.

Afterward, he even comforted me.

“Lorinda gave you her shoes too. Don’t be so petty. They’re just shoes. I’ll buy you as many as you want later.”

I looked down at the shoes on my feet and almost laughed.

Soon, noise came from outside.

I walked to the window and saw several cars parked below.

The wedding sign, floral arrangements, the aisle runner, and the bouquet were all being carried piece by piece into the vans.

“Mr. Berkeley said the reception here is cancelled. Everything moves to the other venue.”

“The gown, veil, and jewelry set go too.”

“Go tell the bride to change her dress.”

Someone down below couldn’t hold back.

“Don’t you think you’re going too far?”

But the worker kept a straight face.

“Since it’s a bride swap, we should swap everything. Those were Mr. Berkeley’s exact words.”

My phone rang right then.

I picked up, and Rowan spoke up without preamble.

“Lillian, come over first. Lorinda really likes your veil. Bring the jewelry set I bought you too. Everything needs to be swapped. Hurry, don’t miss the ceremony time.”

I watched the people hauling things and asked him, “So my ceremony time doesn’t count in your eyes?”

He paused, then quickly said, “Don’t make a scene. Today’s special. Just give in a little.”

Someone next to him chimed in.

“You have half an hour. If you don’t deliver it, don’t even think about getting the marriage license with Rowan.”

I gripped my phone tighter.

“Rowan, I’m a bride too.”

He was silent for two seconds, but his tone stayed matteroffact.

“It’ll look better for everyone if you bring them yourself. Besides, you and Bryce don’t need a real ceremony. Once I’m done, I’ll come back and get the license with you.”

Then Lorinda texted me:

[Lillian, I love your veil. Rowan picked it with me, and I fell for it at first sight. Be careful bringing it over. Don’t damage it.]

I stared at that message, hung up, and blocked both of them.

Then I took off the veil, removed the jewelry set and the ring.

I slipped out of the wedding gown too.

If they wanted it all back, I’d give it all back.

Soon, another commotion broke out outside.

Someone set up a large screen and shouted up.

“Miss Pemberton, Mr. Berkeley was worried you wouldn’t make it on time, so he asked us to livestream the wedding for you. He said he wants you to witness his ceremony with your own eyes.”

As the screen lit up, I recognized everything instantly.

Every single detail was what I had planned.

They’d been hauling things away just moments ago, and yet the other venue was already fully set.

Everyone had their roles, moving like clockwork.

I stood there and laughed out loud.

So they’d been ready for the so-called last-minute bride swap all along.

They wanted to swap my groom.

To swap everything that was mine.

And that included me, the bride.
