He Married Her on Our Wedding Day Chapter 08

The next day, I took my team to Vale Group to formally discuss the partnership.

The overall framework had already been settled, and I had confirmed the details with our point of contact in

advance.

The meeting went smoothly enough.

Adrian didn’t say anything inappropriate this time.

He just kept looking at me in a way I couldn’t quite read.

It made me a little uncomfortable, but I could tolerate it.

After the meeting, I passed by my old desk.

Three years had gone by, and every face there was unfamiliar.

I frowned.

Had everyone been replaced?

Then Adrian’s voice came from behind me.

“I fired them.”

I turned to look at him.

“I checked the security footage afterward.”

“They were the ones talking about you behind your back that day.”

“I’m sorry I put you through that.”

I paused for a moment, then smiled.

“So?”

“What exactly are you trying to tell me?”

Adrian swallowed.

“I just want you to know that I realize I was wrong.”

I nodded but didn’t respond.

Then I turned toward the elevator.

Adrian called after me again.

“Tessa, will I see you tomorrow?”

I pressed the elevator button without looking back.

“Mr. Vale, we’re business partners.”

“This project lasts three months.”

“If work requires it, of course you’ll see me.”

The next day, the meeting was held at our company’s regional office in Baycrest.

This time, Adrian showed up with a bouquet of red roses and knocked directly on my office door.

“These are for you.”

He held them out to me, with a hint of expectation on his face.

I glanced up but showed no reaction.

Then I tipped my chin toward the corner.

“Put them over there.”

Adrian turned to look.

His expression stiffened instantly.

There were already more than a dozen bouquets piled in the corner, most of them still wrapped.

I didn’t spare them another glance.

I lowered my eyes and went back to the documents in my hands.

Adrian looked at me again, his voice tightening.

“Did other people send you all of these?”

I nodded, thinking back.

“Some are successful self-made entrepreneurs.”

“Some come from wealthy families.”

“Others have powerful family connections.”

“There are too many. I can barely keep track.”

I glanced at him.

“But you’re the first divorced man I’ve come across.”

Adrian tightened his grip on the wrapping around the bouquet until his knuckles turned white.

He placed the roses beside the other flowers, then looked back at me.

“Tessa, do we really have to talk to each other like this when we’re alone?”

I met his gaze.

“How else do you want me to talk to you?”

“Do you want me to go back to focusing all my attention on you and agreeing with everything you say?”

“I’m only treating you the way you used to treat me.”

“And you already can’t take it?”

Adrian had no answer.

Just then, my assistant stepped inside.

“Ms. Monroe, the conference room is ready.”

“We can start the meeting.”

After the meeting, Adrian asked me to dinner.

I politely declined.

He stood in front of me, looking like he still had a lot to say.

I rubbed between my brows, tired.

I was tired of going in circles with him.

So I decided to make myself completely clear.

“Adrian, there’s no chance for us anymore.”

“From now on, unless it’s about work or this partnership, don’t come looking for me.”

“Let it go.”

The words seemed to hit him hard.

His eyes reddened instantly.

“I can’t!”

“We were about to get married back then.”

“How did everything suddenly turn into this?”

“It wasn’t sudden.”

I took a slow breath.

“We were already over when you started hurting me because of that so-called policy.”

“The home we were supposed to share was decorated entirely around Celeste’s preferences.”

“The wedding fund was transferred straight into Celeste’s account.”

“Even the engagement ring was sized for Celeste because you were afraid the store clerk might realize there

was something going on between us.”

I looked at him.

“So what was I supposed to be in that relationship?”

“Adrian, you loved me.”

“But you never respected me.”

“And that kind of love disgusts me more than not being loved at all.”
