“Ms. Grant, you were the one who bumped into me.”

I repeated firmly.

Just then, Adrian stepped out of his office after hearing the commotion.

“What’s going on?”

“Why is everyone standing around instead of working?”

Celeste immediately turned and threw herself into Adrian’s arms, sounding hurt.

“Adrian, Tessa bumped into me.”

“She won’t apologize, and she keeps insisting she did nothing wrong.”

“Make her apologize to me.”

I shot back at once.

“You were the one who bumped into me!”

“There are security cameras in the office. Check the footage, and you’ll see exactly who was at fault.”

Celeste went quiet, looking uneasy.

I braced a hand on the nearby desk and got back to my feet.

I had no intention of dragging the matter out.

I was about to leave when Adrian called after me.

“Tessa!”

I stopped and turned around.

“You want me to apologize to Celeste?”

I could hardly believe what I was hearing.

“Why?”

“She deliberately bumped into me. If you don’t believe me, you can check the footage—”

“Tessa, I said apologize!”

Adrian suddenly raised his voice and shouted at me.

“It doesn’t matter who was right or wrong. You should apologize to Celeste.”

I knew exactly what he was doing.

The news from that morning still hadn’t died down.

He was trying hard to show everyone how close he and Celeste were, while openly taking her side.

That way, he could shut down the rumors about our office romance.

But this time, I wasn’t going to play along.

I ignored Adrian’s order and walked straight past him and Celeste.

As I passed Adrian, I gave him one last look.

“Adrian, you really disappointed me.”

Then I walked out of the company without looking back.

The moment I stepped outside, a message from Adrian popped up on my phone.

【Tessa, I’m sorry.】

【What I did just now was only for show. At least it worked. No one suspects there’s anything going on between us anymore. Stay home and rest for a while. Once the news dies down, you can come back to work.】

I read it and didn’t reply.

I blocked Adrian immediately.

No.

Once I left this time, I wasn’t coming back.

After that, I called the company in Westbridge.

“I can get to Westbridge as early as tomorrow.”

“As for officially starting… the day after tomorrow should work.”

They clearly hadn’t expected me to move that fast.

“I’ll have HR book your flight right away. We’ll cover your lodging and the other expenses.”

My flight had originally been scheduled for that night.

But because of the hurricane conditions, it was canceled and rescheduled for the next morning.

That evening, I was packing at home when Adrian started ringing my doorbell over and over.

“Tessa, open the door!”

“Why did you block me?”

“We can talk this through. I have something important to tell you!”

I hesitated for a while.

In the end, I opened the door.

Adrian stood there holding a bag.

“Here. This is for you.”

I froze for a second and glanced inside.

It was a dress.

But the style looked a little strange.

“It’s a bridesmaid dress.”

“Celeste and I are planning to have a small wedding tomorrow.”

“She said she really did bump into you by accident today.”

“So she wants you to be a bridesmaid and apologize to you in person.”

I didn’t take the bag.

Instead, I threw it aside.

“Did you come here just to humiliate me?”

“I was with you for five years, and we could never make our relationship public.”

“Then you and Celeste turned a fake relationship into a real one. You even got a marriage certificate.”

“And now you’re having a wedding.”

“You want me to stand there as a bridesmaid and watch the two of you exchange vows.”

“Adrian, do you really think that wouldn’t hurt me?”

Adrian had nothing to say.

I didn’t want to keep arguing.

I reached for the door to close it.

But Adrian caught it with one hand.

“Tessa, I’m doing this for your own good.”
