She Saved Herself for Her Foster Brother, Not Me Chapter 09 Grandpa Arrives

I set the box down and raised my arm to block. Six months of rehab had not fully restored my strength. But it was enough for him.

I grabbed his wrist. I twisted.

“Ahhh!” Zach screamed.

I kicked him in the knee. He dropped to the floor.

“Ethan! How dare you!” Stella shrieked. She lunged at me.

I slapped her across the face.

The crack echoed through the room.

She froze. Her hand flew to her cheek. She stared at me in disbelief.

Seven years. I had never hit back. Until now.

“You… you hit me?!” She came at me like a madwoman. Her nails aimed for my face.

I caught her arm and shoved hard. She staggered back into the wall. Her hair fell loose. She looked pathetic.

“Ethan! I will kill you!”

Sirens wailed outside.

“Too late.” Stella pulled herself up. Hatred burned in her eyes. “You are going to court for this.”

I picked up the box and headed downstairs.

“Stop him!” she screamed.

Zach struggled to his feet. He grabbed the ashtray off the coffee table. He hurled it at the back of my head.

I ducked. The ashtray smashed into the wall. Shards flew everywhere.

Then the front door was kicked open.

Armed soldiers stormed in. Rifles raised. All aimed at me.

“That is him!” Stella pointed at me, her voice shrill. “Illegal entry. Assault. Attempted violence. Arrest him!”

The soldiers closed in.

I set the box down. I raised both hands.

“Ethan, you are finished.” Stella walked up to me. She leaned close to my ear. Her voice was low. Her smile

was vicious. “This time, I will make sure you never get out.”

I looked at her. I smiled.

“What are you smiling at?”

“I am smiling because you do not know what is coming!”

“What the hell are you talking abou-”

“Report!”

A soldier shouted. Panic in his voice.

Everyone turned.

People had appeared in the doorway. Special forces. Fully armed. A wall of black uniforms surrounding the house. On their sleeves, a crimson sword insignia.

The crowd parted.

An old man walked in.

White hair. Military uniform. Three stars gleamed on his shoulders. He leaned on a cane. He moved slowly. But every step felt heavy.

Stella’s face went white.

“G–General Myers…” Her lips trembled.

Zach’s legs gave out. He dropped to his knees. He did not dare look up.

The old man did not look at them.

He walked up to me. He stopped.

His cloudy eyes studied me. From head to toe.

Then he raised his hand. He slapped me hard across the face,

“You fool!”

My head snapped to the side. Blood seeped from my lip.

“Bullied like this, and you never came to me?” His voice was hoarse, His eyes were red. “Your parents are

gone. Did you think your grandfather was dead too?!”

I lifted my head. I looked at him.

“Grandfather.”

He took a deep breath. Then he turned to Stella.

One look.

She started shaking. Cold sweat soaked through her uniform.

“G–General Myers, I… I…

“Silence.” His voice was not loud. But the whole room went quiet.

He walked to the couch and sat down. An aide handed him a cup of tea.

“Speak.” He took a sip. “What crime did my grandson commit that he needs a court–martial?”

Stella’s legs gave out. She collapsed to her knees.

“General Myers, it is a misunderstanding! All of it! Ethan… he is my husband. We were just arguing. It was nothing…”

“Husband?” The old man smiled. It was a cold smile. “Was the divorce not already signed?”

Stella’s face went pale.

“I… I was just… confused…”

“Confused?” He set down his cup. “Stealing military credit. Falsifying achievements. Embezzling funds. Driving your mother–in–law to her death. All just confusion?”

Every word hit Stella like a blade.

She crumpled. She trembled. “I did not… those are all lies… Ethan framed me…”
